Konrad Corradi
Konrad Corradi, originally Johann Corradi, (2 September 1813, Oberneunforn - 9 April 1878, Laufen-Uhwiesen) was a Swiss landscape painter, illustrator and gouache artist. Life and work In 1821, he began a six-year apprenticeship at the studios of Johann Heinrich Bleuler, the Younger (1787–1857) in Feuerthalen, which he completed in 1827. From 1833, he worked at the painting school and publishing house operated by Bleuler's brother, Johann Ludwig, at Schloss Laufen. In 1837, he went to Meiringen, where he made the acquaintance of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, who introduced him to oil painting. The following year, he married Elisabeth Egli from Uhwiesen, where he eventually settled; although he travelled extensively in the summer, until he became too infirm. In 1863, he was a co-founder of the Schweizer Alpen-Club. Johann Wilhelm Schirmer
Johann Wilhelm Schirmer (5 September 1807 in Jülich – 11 September 1863 in Karlsruhe) was a German landscape artist born in Jülich, within the Kingdom of Prussia, Prussian Duchy of Jülich. Biography Schirmer was started as a student of historical painting under Schadow at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, academy of Düsseldorf. Later, he came under the influence of Carl Friedrich Lessing and landscape painting and began painting historical landscapes in the manner of Nicolas Poussin. He became known as one of the first of the Düsseldorf school of painting. In 1830 he became an Assistant Professor, and later, in 1839, a Professor at the Düsseldorf Academy. In the meantime, he visited and painted in Belgium, the Black Forest, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Normandy and Italy. In 1854, he took up the role of a Director at the Art School at Karlsruhe, where he died. Schweizer Alpen-Club
The Swiss Alpine Club (german: Schweizer Alpen-Club, french: Club Alpin Suisse, it, Club Alpino Svizzero, rm, Club Alpin Svizzer) is the largest mountaineering club in Switzerland. Meiringen
Meiringen () is a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. Besides the village of Meiringen, the municipality includes the settlements of Balm, Brünigen, Eisenbolgen, Hausen, Prasti, Sand, Stein, Unterbach, Unterheidon, Wylerli and Zaun. Neunforn
Neunforn is a municipality in the district of Frauenfeld in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. History Neunforn is first mentioned in 962 as ''Niuvora''. In 963 a court was mentioned in the village. The Freiherr of Teufen sold his property in Neunforn to Töss Monastery in 1250. The high and low courts in Niederneunforn were merged in 1500 and in 1554 both courts were acquired by Stokar from Schaffhausen. From 1694 until 1798 the courts were owned by Zurich. The parish included Oberneunforn, Niederneunforn, Wilen and Burghof. In 1265, the parish was given as a donation to Töss Monastery, and was incorporated into the abbey in 1291. The Reformation reached and converted Neunforn in 1525. During the Protestant Reformation, Zurich closed Töss Monastery and took over the parish rights in Neunforn. Laufen Castle (Switzerland)
Laufen Castle (german: Schloss Laufen) is a castle in the municipality of Laufen-Uhwiesen in the Swiss canton of Zurich. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance overlooking the Rhine Falls. The first documented reference to the castle dates to the year 858 when it was the home of the Barons of Laufen. It passed through several owners until the Old Zürich War (1439–1450) when the castle was acquired by the Fulach family, from whom the city of Zurich bought the castle in 1544. Following the Helvetic Republic (1798–1803) the castle was once again in private ownership, with the city of Zurich reacquiring the castle by buying it again in 1941. Johann Ludwig Bleuler, sometimes called Louis (12 February 1792 – 28 March 1850) was a Swiss painter, landscape artist and publisher. Biography He was born in Feuerthalen. His father, Johann Heinrich, was a landscape painter and member of the (lesser masters). His older brother, Johann Heinrich, the Younger (1787–1857) also became a painter. He began his artistic training in his father's workshop, where he learned painting and draftsmanship. From 1817 to 1818, he travelled throughout the Rhine region, making landscape sketches and studies. The following year, he participated in an exhibition at the Künstlergesellschaft (an artists' association) in Zürich. That same year, he made a combination study and business trip to Brussels and Amsterdam. During a subsequent stay in Paris, he met his future wife, Antoinette Trillié.
