Kollo, Niger
Kollo is a large town and urban Communes of Niger, commune in southwestern Niger, where NGOs work, as well as, missionaries and Peace Corps volunteers. It lies in the Kollo Department of the Tillabéri Region. Transport Currently, Kollo can be accessed by its main road. There are bush taxis available as well as urban buses from Niamey. City taxies generally do not go to Kollo. They will stop in Libore unless you pay a little more. It is proposed to be served by a station on a future railway network. The Departments of Niger are subdivided into communes. Tillabéri Region
Tillabéri (var. ''Tillabéry'') is one of the eight Regions of Niger; the capital of the Region is Tillabéri. Tillabéri Region was created in 1992, when Niamey Region was split, with Niamey and its immediate hinterland becoming a new ''capital district'' enclaved within Tillabéri Region. Geography Tillabéri borders Mali (Gao Region) to the north, Tahoua Region to the east, Dosso Region to the southeast, Benin (Alibori Department) to the south, and Burkina Faso (Sahel Region and Est Region) to the west. The Niamey Capital District forms an enclave within the region. Liboré is a rural commune (municipality) in the Kollo Department, Tillabéri Region, in Niger. Located along the left bank of the Niger river 20 kilometers to the southeast of the capital, Niamey, its economy is based predominantly on the subsistence cultivation of irrigated rice and rainfed millet. Other crops include hot pepper, okra, tomato, and lettuce, while several species of mango are grown and marketed. Railway Stations In Niger
There is currently one railway in Niger, built between 2014 and 2016 between Niamey and Dosso by the French Bolloré conglomerate. The objective was to connect Niamey to the rail network in Benin and thus to the coast. But competing commercial interests by several parties resulted in endless litigation and the connection to Benin never materialized. So the 145 km Niamey-Dosso stretch now lies orphaned and unused, with the tracks ending in the middle of nowhere some 6 km south of Dosso. After several years of neglect the tracks are already damaged to such an extent in some places, that they have become unusable. At the Niamey Terminus Station, the rails are kinked to such an extent by the summer heat that the train would not be able to leave the station (see image).
