Knut Børø
Knut Tore Børø (born 28 September 1948 in Hitra, Sør-Trøndelag) is a retired Norwegian long-distance runner who specialized in 5000 and 10,000 metres. He represented Strindheim IL. At the 1974 European Championships he finished eleventh in the 5000 m and sixth in the 10,000 m. He competed at the Summer Olympics in 1972, without reaching the finals, and 1976, dropping out of the 10,000-metre final due to a leg injury (see Hannus, Matti, ed., "The Montreal Olympic Book", Helsinki: Juoksija/Runner Magazine, 1976), and placed 29th at the 1974 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He became Norwegian champion in 5000 m in 1973 and 1975 and in 10,000 m in 1973. Hitra is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality covers the island of Hitra and hundreds smaller islands, islets, and skerries. It is part of the Fosen region. Are Nakkim (born 13 February 1964) is a retired Norwegian long-distance runner who specialized in the 10,000 metres. He represented Moss IL during his active career. Are Nakkim attended Boston University, where he ran cross country and track. He won a silver medal in 10,000 m at the 1990 European Championships. He also competed in 3000 metres steeplechase at the 1986 European Championships as well as the World Cross Country Championships in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 without any success. In 10,000 m he became Norwegian champion only once, in 1984. He did win the 3000 m chase in 1985–1986 and 5000 m in 1986 and 1988–1990. John Halvorsen
John Halvorsen (born 17 August 1966) is a retired Norwegian long-distance runner who specialized in 10,000 metres and cross-country running. He represented IF Minerva. In 10,000 m he finished sixteenth at the 1988 Summer Olympics, twelfth at the 1990 European Championships and nineteenth at the 1992 Summer Olympics. At the 1987 World Championships he competed in both 10,000 m and 5000 m without reaching the finals. His highest place from the IAAF World Cross Country Championships was a tenth place from 1989. He also attended University of Ottawa and is also a record 4 times Canadian University (CIAU) Cross Country Champion and a 5 times all Canadian as well as two times Canadian Cross Country Champion and won several Canadian 10K Road Championships. Knut Kvalheim (born 14 June 1950) is a retired Norwegian long-distance runner. He is the brother of Arne Kvalheim. He finished fourteenth at the 1974 European Championships (5000 m), ninth at the 1976 Summer Olympics (5000 m) and ninth at the 1978 European Championships (10,000 m). He also competed without reaching the final at the European Championships in 1971 and 1982. He was a Norwegian champion in 1500 metres in 1973, 3000 metres steeplechase in 1975, 5000 metres in 1974, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1982. and 10,000 metres in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1982. 3000 Metres
The 3000 metres or 3000-metre run is a track running event, also commonly known as the "3K" or "3K run", where 7.5 laps are run around an outdoor 400 m track, or 15 laps around a 200 m indoor track. It is debated whether the 3000m should be classified as a middle-distance or long-distance event. In elite-level competition, 3000 m pace is more comparable to the pace found in the longer 5000 metres event, rather than mile pace. The world record performance for 3000 m equates to a pace of 58.76 seconds per 400 m, which is closer to the 60.43 seconds for 5000 m than the 55.46 seconds for the mile. However, the 3000 m does require some anaerobic conditioning, and an elite athlete needs to develop a high tolerance to lactic acid, as does the mile runner. Sør-Trøndelag () was a county comprising the southern portion of the present-day Trøndelag county in Norway.
