Kjærstrup, or Kærstrup, is a manor house and estate located 9 kilometres East of Rødbyon Lolland, Lolland Municipality, in Southeastern Denmark. The two-storey, half-timbered main building was faced with brick in 1836 and a central tower in the front was added in 1868. The building was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1918. The adjacent farm buildings date from the early 1910s and are not part of the heritage listing. A Baroque style garden from around 1765 was restored in around 1900. The estate covers 487 hectares of land. History Early history Kjærstrup is one of the oldest manors on Lolland and was originally located in a village by the same name which disappeared in the beginning of the Middle Ages. Renaissance Revival architecture (sometimes referred to as "Neo-Renaissance") is a group of 19th century architectural revival styles which were neither Greek Revival nor Gothic Revival but which instead drew inspiration from a wide range of classicizing Italian modes. Egeskov Castle
Egeskov Castle ( da, Egeskov Slot) is located near Kværndrup, in the south of the island of Funen, Denmark. The castle is Europe's best preserved Renaissance water castle. History Egeskov was first mentioned in 1405. The castle structure was erected by Frands Brockenhuus in 1554. Due to the troubles caused by the civil war known as the ''Count's Feud'' (Danish: ''Grevens fejde''), general civil unrest, and a civil war introducing the Protestant Reformation, most Danish noblemen built their homes as fortifications. The castle is constructed on oaken piles and located in a small lake with a maximum depth of . Originally, the only access was by means of a drawbridge. According to legend, it took an entire forest of oak trees to build the foundation, hence the name ''Egeskov'' (oak forest). Aalholm
Aalholm, also Aalholm Castle ( da, Aalholm Slot), is a castle and country estate in Nysted in the municipality of Guldborgsund, on the south coast of the island of Lolland, Denmark. It is the oldest castle on the island, first mentioned in 1329. The main building was built in 1300–1585, with major rebuilding especially in 1768 and in 1889 under Hans Jørgen Holm and Gotfred Tvede. Inscriptions in the building show that it was originally completed in 1585. History The castle was initially the seat of the king's vassal or ''lensmand'', and thus the centre of local government. Peder Skram
Peder Skram (died 11 July 1581) was a Danish Admiral and naval hero. Biography Skram born between 1491 and 1503, on his father's estate at Urup near Horsens in Jutland, Denmark. He participated in military service during the Swedish War of Liberation in the service of King Christian II. He first saw service in the Swedish war at the Battle of Brännkyrka during 1518. In 1521 during the Battle of Uppsala, he prevented the capture of Danish nobleman Mogens Gyldenstierne. For his services in this war he was rewarded with an estate, where he settled for a time with his young consort Elsebe Krabbe, daughter of nobleman Tyge Krabbe (ca. 1474–1541).
