''Kjærlighet paa pinde: sommerspøk i 4 akter'' (Love on a Stick: A Summer Comedy in Four Acts) is a Norwegian silent film from 1922. The comedian August Schønemann played Alexander Snobmann in his only film role. A bright future had been anticipated for him in silent film, but he died in 1925. Other actors in the film include Ellen Sinding and Conrad Arnesen, and it was directed by Erling Eriksen. The film was Leif Sinding's first work in Norwegian cinematography as a producer. The film can be seen for free at the National Library of Norway website. Plot Alexander Snobman and Philip Helt compete for the favor of the dancer Eva Sommers. One day Snobman meets her in the woods and tries to win her over, but he then has to resort to force. Eva shouts for help, and the engineer Helt comes to rescue her. Erling Eriksen (January 19, 1878 – 1957) was a Norwegian film director, screenwriter, and film producer. Eriksen was born in Kristiania (now Oslo). He directed his only film, the comedy ''Kjærlighet paa pinde'', in 1922, for which he also wrote the screenplay. In 1925 he produced Harry Ivarson's film '' Fager er lien''. Leif Sinding
Leif Sinding (19 November 1895 – 13 May 1985) was a Norwegian film director and journalist. He worked for the newspapers ''Verdens Gang'', ''Aftenposten'', and ''Morgenbladet''. Among his silent films are ''Himmeluret'' from 1925, based on Gabriel Scott's comedy, and ''Fjeldeventyret'' from 1926. He directed the film ''Bra mennesker'' (1937), based on a play by Oskar Braaten, and the films ''De vergeløse'' (1939) and ''Tante Pose'' (1940), both based on novels by Gabriel Scott. In 1941 he directed the comedy '' Kjærlighet og vennskap''. During the German occupation of Norway Sinding collaborated with the Axis forces, was a member of Nasjonal Samling, and was sentenced to four years forced labour after the war. Ellen Sinding
Ellen Sinding (born ''Ellen Buttedahl''; April 17, 1899 – April 18, 1980) was a Norwegian actress and dancer. Sinding was born in Haugesund, the daughter of the actor and sculptor Sæbjørn Buttedahl and the actress Clare Petrea Margrethe Benelli (1871–1933). She debuted as an actress in 1922 in the film '' Kjærlighet paa pinde''. During the 1920s, Sinding also appeared in the films ''Til sæters'' (1924), '' Den nye lensmannen'' (1926), and '' Fjeldeventyret'' and '' Syv dage for Elisabeth'' (both in 1927). August Schønemann
August Schønemann (né Pettersen; 30 May 1891 – 18 February 1925) was a Norwegian singer, actor and comedian. From the mid-1910s up to his death in 1925, he was among the most popular entertainers in Norway. He was father of Aud Schønemann. August was born in Kristiania. He made his staged debut at Østre Theater in 1906, and performed at various theatres over the years. He had his breakthrough in early 1915 with the song "Neutralitetsværnet" in the revue ''Futt'' at Benno Singer's Theatre Moderne. His most famous act was possibly a duet with Lalla Carlsen at Chat Noir, in a Hamlet parody in the revue ''Uten en tråd''. He also starred in one film production, the four-reel comedy '' Kjærlighet paa pinde'' (1922), directed by Erling Eriksen. Conrad Arnesen
Conrad Arnesen (May 5, 1891 – May 25, 1955) was a Norwegian actor and opera singer. Arnesen was born in Kristiania (now Oslo). He made his film debut in 1922 in Erling Eriksen's ''Kjærlighet paa pinde'', in which he played one of the film's three main roles together with August Schønemann and Ellen Sinding. In 1938, Arnesen had a minor role in Toralf Sandø and Knut Hergel's film ''Bør Børson Jr.'' He was also active with the Oslo New Theater in the 1920s and 1930s, and with Oslo's Opera Comique, where he worked under Benno Singer.
