Kjell Johansson (table Tennis)
Kjell Johansson (5 October 1946 – 24 October 2011) was a male table tennis player from Sweden. From 1963 to 1977 he won several medals in singles, doubles, and team events in the European Table Tennis Championships and in the World Table Tennis Championships. He won the 1965 Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal. He was a native of Eskilstuna. He also won three English Open titles. Johansson was called ''Hammaren'', which means "The Hammer" in Swedish, because of his hard forehand. His brother Christer Johansson was also an international table tennis player. Johansson died in Eksjö on 24 October 2011, aged 65, following a long illness. Eskilstuna
Eskilstuna () is a city and the seat of Eskilstuna Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden. The city of Eskilstuna had 67,359 inhabitants in 2015, with a total population of 100,092 inhabitants in Eskilstuna municipality (2014). Eskilstuna has a large Sweden Finn population. The town is located on the River Eskilstunaån, which connects Lake Hjälmaren and Lake Mälaren. History Eskilstuna's history dates back to medieval times when English monk Saint Eskil made "Tuna" his base and diocese of the South coast of Lake Mälaren. Saint Eskil was stoned to death by the pagan vikings of neighbouring town Strängnäs, east of Eskilstuna, trying to convert them to Christianity. Saint Eskil was buried in his monastery church in Tuna. Later the pagan city of Strängnäs was Christianised and was given the privilege of becoming diocese of South Lake Mälaren. Christer Johansson is a male former international table tennis player from Sweden. He won a bronze medal at the 1967 World Table Tennis Championships in the Swaythling Cup (men's team event) with Hans Alsér, Kjell Johansson (his brother) and Bo Persson. He was a two times gold medal winner in the team event at the European Table Tennis Championships and later became national coach of Sweden. Forehand
The forehand in tennis and other racket sports such as table tennis, squash and badminton is a shot made by swinging the racket across one's body with the hand moving palm-first. In tennis, except in the context of the phrase ''forehand volley'', the term refers to a type of groundstroke—a stroke in which the ball has bounced before it is struck. It contrasts with the backhand, the other type of groundstroke. For a right-handed player, the forehand is a stroke that begins on the right side of the body, continues across the body as contact is made with the ball, and ends on the left side of the body. English Open (table Tennis)
The English Open was a table tennis tournament in England, last staged by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) in Sheffield in 2011. History The tournament was first held as the English Open in 1927 by the English Table Tennis Association. Apart from a wartime break in the early 1940s, the tournament was held every year until 1980, and then every two years until the early 1990s. In 1996, the ITTF decided to include that year's English Open in Kettering as the very first event of the first ever ITTF Pro Tour. The tournament went on to feature in the ITTF Pro Tour five more times, in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2009 and in 2011, when it was held for the last time.
