Kitchissippi Ward (Ward 15) is a city ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It gets its name from the Algonquin name for the Ottawa River, meaning ''Great River''. The ward is slightly west of downtown, and covers the neighbourhoods of Champlain Park, Civic Hospital, Hampton Park, Highland Park, Hintonburg, Island Park, McKellar Heights, McKellar Park, Mechanicsville, Westboro Beach, Westboro, Wellington Village, and Wellington Street West. As of the 2014 election on October 27, 2014, the ward is represented by Councillor Jeff Leiper. The ward was created in 1994 from parts of Queensboro Ward, Richmond Ward and Elmdale Ward. Elmdale Ward
Elmdale Ward was a municipal ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ward was created in 1929 when it was split off from Dalhousie Ward. It existed until 1994, when it was merged with Queensboro Ward to become Kitchissippi Ward. From 1952 to 1980, the ward was known as Elmdale-Victoria Ward, after Elmdale Ward merged with Victoria Ward. Elmdale Ward originally consisted of Ottawa's western suburbs, such as Civic Hospital and Hintonburg, but was later shifted west by an expanding Dalhousie Ward to its east. Bay Ward
Bay Ward or Ward 7 (French: ''Quartier Baie'') is a municipal ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada represented on Ottawa City Council. It covers much of the western portion of the old city of Ottawa as well as some portions of what was once Nepean. The ward runs from Sherbourne and Maitland in the east to March Road in the west. The southern border is the Queensway while the northern border is the Ottawa River. The ward makes up the northern portion of the federal and provincial riding of Ottawa West-Nepean. The ward contains a number of neighbourhoods, with quite diverse populations. Queensboro Ward
Queensboro Ward is a former municipal ward in the city of Ottawa, Canada. In 1950, what is now Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood was annexed from Nepean Township. This area would be named Westboro Ward for just two years. In 1952, the size of Ottawa City Council was decreased, and the area became known as Ward 8 which eventually became Queensboro Ward in 1956. In 1991, the ward changed names to Carlington-Westboro Ward before it was merged with Elmdale Ward to become Kitchissippi Ward in 1994. Queensboro Ward traditionally consisted of Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood and Carlington neighbourhood. Wellington Street West
Wellington Street West is a 2.3 km road and shopping area west of downtown Ottawa, Ontario. This road was once connected to - and is often confused with - the prominent Wellington Street in downtown Ottawa. But the two Wellingtons were severed in the 1960s with the expropriation of LeBreton Flats and the demolition of the viaduct that connected them over the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks. A small remnant of the old Wellington alignment remains between Bayview Road and the small park, Somerset Square. But the modern Wellington Street West roadway is now connected with Somerset Street West, which becomes Wellington West at Garland Avenue. Wellington Village (formerly Island Park) is a neighbourhood in Kitchissippi Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the north by Scott Street, on the west by Island Park Drive, on the south by The Queensway and on the east by Holland Avenue. The neighbourhood is covered by the Wellington Village Community Association, with the exception of Island Park Drive, which is covered by the Island Park Community Association. The neighbourhood was originally named Elmdale for the number of elm trees in the area, and was founded in 1922. The homes were built between the 1920s and 1940s. Westboro (often referred to as Westboro Village) is an area in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located along the Ottawa River, Island Park Drive defines Westboro's eastern border, while the Ottawa River defines its northern border. Under this definition, the population of the area is 22,725 (2016 Census).
