Kissing, Bavaria
Kissing is a municipality in the Aichach-Friedberg district, in Bavaria, Germany. It is located just 10 km (6.2 mi) south of Augsburg and has about 11,200 inhabitants (2007). Kissing was first mentioned in a document in 1050 AD as ''Chissingin'', it was a minor regional centre of rule and jurisdiction called a '. In even earlier times, around 500, there was a thing hill nearby, which was later swept away by the floods of the river Lech. The surname Kissinger (as in Henry Kissinger) means inhabitant of Kissing or Kissingen Bad Kissingen is a German spa town in the Bavarian region of Lower Franconia and seat of the district Bad Kissingen. Aichach-Friedberg
Aichach-Friedberg is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the northwest and clockwise) the districts of Augsburg, Donau-Ries, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, Pfaffenhofen, Dachau, Fürstenfeldbruck and Landsberg, as well as by the city of Augsburg. History Aichach-Friedberg was settled by Bavarian tribes from the seventh century on. The region is sometimes called the cradle of Bavaria, since the castle of Wittelsbach was located close to the present city of Aichach. It was the ancestral castle of the Wittelsbach family, who were rulers of Bavaria for thousand years. The castle was razed to the ground in 1208, and today there is nothing else left than a memorial stone at the place. Lech (river)
The Lech (, ''Licca'') is a river in Austria and Germany. It is a right tributary of the Danube in length with a drainage basin of . Its average discharge at the mouth is . Its source is located in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, where the river rises from lake Formarinsee in the Alps at an altitude of . It flows in a north-north-easterly direction and crosses the German border, forming the Lechfall, a waterfall; afterwards the river enters a narrow gorge (the Lechschlucht).
