Alex Kipchirchir Rono (born 26 November 1984 in Sergoit, Uasin Gishu District) is a middle distance runner from Kenya. Career He graduated from Litein High School. He played football and basketball when still at school and did not take up athletics until December 2001, when he met Moses Tanui who persuaded him to become runner. Only seven months later he became World Junior Champion, in his first race outside Kenya. Before becoming a full-time athlete, he served as a waiter at his uncle's food cafe in Chepkanga, Uasing Gishu District. In 2002, Kipchirchir won the 800 metres at the World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2003 set a new one mile Junior World Record of 3:50.25 in Rieti, Italy. Daniel Kipchirchir Komen
Daniel Kipchirchir Komen (born November 27, 1984, in Chemorgong, Koibatek District) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 metres. He graduated from Timboroa High School in 2003. He started running seriously while at high school. In 2003 he finished second at the 2003 African Junior Championships 5000 metres race, behind Boniface Kiprop Toroitich of Uganda. He competed at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki but missed the 1500 metres final. On June 10, 2007, he ran the fastest mile ever run in the United States, breaking a record that Eamonn Coghlan had held since 1983 with a 3:48.28 in Eugene, Oregon. He competed at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics in Osaka missing the 1500 metres final. He is coached by Jimmy Beuttah and Joseph Ngure. Abraham Kipchirchir Rotich (born 26 June 1993) is a Kenyan-born Bahraini middle-distance runner. Rotich won the 800 metres at the 2012 Diamond League meeting in Monaco. Career 2012 Rotich opened his 2012 season at the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting on 25 May, placing third in the 800 metres in 1:45.52. He then improved to 1:44.46 in Rehlingen three days later; both times were inside the Olympic qualification standards. However, he only placed fourth at the 2012 Kenyan Olympic trials, missing out on an Olympic berth as the top three were selected. He then clocked a new personal best of 1:43.62 at Liège on 5 July. He improved further to 1:43.15 two days later at the Heusden-Zolder Night of Athletics, breaking the Kenyan junior record previously held by 2011 World Youth Champion Leonard Kosencha. Bernard Kipchirchir Lagat (born December 12, 1974) is a Kenyan-American middle and long-distance runner. Lagat was born in Kapsabet, Kenya. Prior to his change of domicile to the US, Lagat had an extensive competitive career representing his native country. He is the American record holder in the 1500 m and mile run indoors, as well as the 1500 m and 3000 m outdoors, and is the Kenyan record holder at 1500 m outdoors. Lagat is the second fastest 1500 m runner of all time, behind Hicham El Guerrouj. Lagat is a five-time Olympian, having competed in the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 games, and is a thirteen-time medalist in World Championships and Olympics including five gold medals. Emmanuel Kipchirchir Mutai (born 12 October 1984) is a long distance runner from Kenya, who specialises in marathons. He is now the joint 6th fastest man ever over the 42.195 km distance. Initially running in half marathons, he made his debut over the full distance in 2007 and won his first race later that year at the Amsterdam Marathon. He was fourth at both the 2008 and 2009 London Marathons, but managed to reach the podium at the 2009 World Championships, claiming the silver medal. His 2010 racing saw him finish as runner-up twice at the London and New York City Marathons. Kalenjin People
The Kalenjin are a group of tribes designated as Highland Nilotes and are descended from Maliri people ''(thus related to Daasanach of Ethiopia.)'' The Kalenjin are cousins with Datooga people of Tanzania and Malawi. In contrast, their designation groups them with other Nilotes including Maasai, Luo, Turkana and Nuer, Dinka among others. They are indigenous to East Africa, residing mainly in what was formerly the Rift Valley Province in Kenya and Eastern slopes of Mount Elgon in Uganda. Upon their arrival in the forest region of Mau, the Kalenjin assimilated the aboriginal hunter-gatherer people known as Okiek. They number 6,358,113 individuals as per the Kenyan 2019 census and an estimated 300,000 in Uganda mainly in Kapchorwa, Kween and Bukwo districts.
