Kingswood, occasionally referred to as ''Kingswood Parks'', is a modern housing estate on the northern fringe of Kingston upon Hull, England. Through much of its history much of the area has been marsh – some drainage was made during the medieval period – a canal, the ''Forthdyk'' (later ''Foredike'') was cut in the 13th century. The ''Engine Drain'' was cut , with windmills aiding drainage of the area. In the 1770s construction of the Holderness Drain incorporated part of the Foredike into its route, and further improved drainage in the wider area. After drainage to the later 20th century the land use was exclusively agricultural. The estate was developed from the 1990s onwards on low lying agricultural land lying immediately east of the River Hull, and adjacent to the Bransholme Estate to the south-east, separated by the A1033 and Wawne Road. The Chevrolet Kingswood was a 4-door station wagon produced by Chevrolet in 1959 and 1960, and again from 1969 to 1972 built on the GM B Body platform. 1959-1960 The Kingswood was deliberately made to be unique: the headlights were placed as low as the law would allow, and the cats eye tail lights were unique to this model. Its flat, wing shaped tailfins were identifiable from a distance. Kingswood () is a suburban area in South Dublin, Ireland. It is close to the county town of Tallaght and Clondalkin. Location The area is bordered by the M50 motorway to the NE; the Belgard Road to the SW; N7 to the NW; Katherine Tynan Road to the SE. The latter is named for writer Katherine Tynan (1859–1931), who lived in the area. It forms the main residential area of the parish of Lapworth, and includes about 18 properties in the parish of Rowington. Kingswood Abbey was a Cistercian abbey, located in the village of Kingswood near Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, England. The abbey was demolished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and all that remains is the gatehouse, a Grade 1 listed building. Through the gatehouse arch are a few houses and the small village primary school of Kingswood. History Kingswood Abbey was founded in 1139 by William of Berkeley, provost of Berkeley, in accordance with the wishes of his late uncle, Roger II of Berkeley, and colonised from the Cistercian house at Tintern, Monmouthshire. The founding family were the feudal barons of Dursley, who intermarried later with the progeny of Robert Fitzharding (d.1170), 1st feudal baron of Berkeley Castle. Kingswood is a village and civil parish within the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, England. It is southwest of Wotton-under-Edge and has a population of 1,290, increasing to 1,395 at the 2011 Census. The village is located on the edge of the Cotswolds. Kingswood was formerly a detached part of Wiltshire that was incorporated into Gloucestershire by the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844. Kingswood Abbey was a Cistercian abbey on the northeast edge of the village. The abbey was founded in 1139 by William Berkeley, in accordance with the wishes of his uncle, Roger II of Berkeley, and colonised from the Cistercian house at Tintern. Kingswood Borough
Kingswood was, from 1974 to 1996, a non-metropolitan district of the County of Avon, England. The district was formed by the Local Government Act 1972 on 1 April 1974 as part of a reform of local authorities throughout England and Wales. Under the reorganisation, the area surrounding the cities of Bath and Bristol was formed into a new county of "Avon", named after the river that ran through the area. The county was divided into six districts, one of which was formed from the areas of Kingswood and Mangotsfield urban districts with Warmley Rural District from the administrative county of Gloucestershire. On 20 May 1987 the district was granted borough status. Following a review by the Local Government Commission for England, both the County of Avon and Borough of Kingswood were abolished on 1 April 1996.
