Kingman Reef
Kingman Reef is a largely submerged, uninhabited, triangle-shaped reef, geologically an atoll, east-west and north-south, in the North Pacific Ocean, roughly halfway between the Hawaiian Islands and American Samoa. It has an area of 3 hectares (0.03 km2; 7.4 acres) and is one of the unincorporated territories of the United States in Oceania. The reef is administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as the Kingman Reef National Wildlife Refuge. History Kingman Reef was discovered on June 14, 1798, by the American captain Edmund Fanning, of the ship ''Betsey''. It was first described by Captain W. E. Kingman (whose name the island bears) on November 29, 1853. It was claimed in 1860 by the United States Guano Company, under the name "Danger Reef". Kingman Station
Kingman station is an Amtrak train station located in the historic Kingman Railroad Depot in Kingman, Arizona, United States. Amtrak's ''Southwest Chief'' trains stop at the Kingman station once daily in each direction. Kingman is also the transfer point for dedicated, guaranteed Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach service to/from Laughlin, Nevada and Las Vegas, Nevada. This station has an enclosed waiting room, but is unmanned. There are no ticket agents or Quik-Trak kiosks on site. Of the eight Arizona stations served by Amtrak (in 2020), Kingman was the third-busiest in fiscal year 2020, boarding or detraining 5,536 passengers in 2020. Kingman (foaled 26 February 2011) is a champion British Thoroughbred racehorse who was the 2014 European Horse of the Year after winning the Irish 2000 Guineas, St. James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes, and Prix Jacques le Marois He is owned by Khalid Abdullah and trained by John Gosden. Racing career 2013: two-year-old season Kingman's career began with a six-length win in a maiden race at Newmarket under jockey Ryan Moore. Moore was impressed by the colt but called the ante-post price for the 2000 Guineas of 10/1 an overreaction. His next race was the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown Park Racecourse this time with Khalid Abdullah's new retained jockey James Doyle on board. Kingman (1888–1893) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse owned by Kinzea Stone of Georgetown, Kentucky and the winner of the 1891 Kentucky Derby, Phoenix Stakes and Latonia Derby. He holds the record for the slowest winning time ever recorded at a Kentucky Derby, at 2:52. Kingman was ridden in the Derby by Isaac Burns Murphy and was considered one of the best prospects for winning the 1891 American Derby. However, Kingman finished third in that race and won few races of importance thereafter. Kingman was bought by John E. Rothschild and Sons Professor of Mathematical Sciences and Director of the Isaac Newton Institute at the University of Cambridge from 2001 until 2006, when he was succeeded by David Wallace. He is known for developing the mathematics of the Coalescent theory, a theoretical model of inheritance, which is fundamental to modern population genetics.
