King Tide (album)
''King Tide'' is the fifth studio album released by Australian rock band Weddings Parties Anything. The album was released in October 1993 on the RooArt label and peaked at No. 20 on the ARIA Album Charts. Billy Bragg provides the vocals with Mick Thomas on "Island of Humour". "Stalactites" marks the first occasion when all members collaborated on the writing of a WPA song and it refers to a well known Melbourne restaurant. The first single from the album, "Monday's Experts", released in August 1993, peaked at No. 45 on the ARIA Singles Charts. The two subsequent singles, "The Rain in My Heart" (December 1993) and "Island of Humour" (January 1994) however failed to chart. Michael James Thomas (born 7 February 1960) is an Australian singer-songwriter, producer, guitarist and hotelier. Thomas was the founding mainstay of a folk rock group, Weddings Parties Anything (1984–1998), and leader of Mick Thomas and the Sure Thing. He has also released material as a solo artist. Billy Bragg
Stephen William Bragg (born 20 December 1957) is an English singer-songwriter and left-wing activist. His music blends elements of folk music, punk rock and protest songs, with lyrics that mostly span political or romantic themes. His music is heavily centred on bringing about change and involving the younger generation in activist causes. ''Donkey Serenade'' is an independent album released by Australian rock band Weddings Parties Anything comprising four cover versions (Canada's The Lowest of the Low's "Rosy and Grey", Bob Dylan's "If You Gotta Go", Strange Tennants' "Grey Skies" and The Triffids' "Wide Open Road"), four new songs written or co-written by Michael Thomas and a couple of old songs re-recorded, "Nothing Left to Say". Weddings Parties Anything
Weddings, Parties, Anything. was an Australian folk rock band formed in 1984 in Melbourne and continuing until 1999. Their name came from The Clash song "Revolution Rock". Musicologist Billy Pinnell described their first album as the best Australian rock debut since Skyhooks' ''Living in the 70's''. The band was led by Mick Thomas, the only continual member throughout the group's history. The single "Father's Day" was nominated for Single of the Year as well as winning Song of the Year at the 1993 ARIA awards. They were renowned for their energetic live performances and in particular their annual Christmas shows at the Central Club Hotel in Swan Street, Richmond held in the lead up to Christmas Eve every year from the late 1980s to 1998.
