Donkey Serenade
''Donkey Serenade'' is an independent album released by Australian rock band Weddings Parties Anything comprising four cover versions (Canada's The Lowest of the Low's "Rosy and Grey", Bob Dylan's "If You Gotta Go", Strange Tennants' "Grey Skies" and The Triffids' "Wide Open Road"), four new songs written or co-written by Michael Thomas and a couple of old songs re-recorded, "Nothing Left to Say". The album (released on CD and cassette) was only available by mail order, via the band's website. The album featured a new bass player Stephen 'Irish' O'Prey, formerly of The Badloves, drummer Michael Barclay, and violinist Jen Anderson (The Black Sorrows) who became an official instead of part-time member of the band. Weddings Parties Anything
Weddings, Parties, Anything. was an Australian folk rock band formed in 1984 in Melbourne and continuing until 1999. Their name came from The Clash song "Revolution Rock". Musicologist Billy Pinnell described their first album as the best Australian rock debut since Skyhooks' ''Living in the 70's''. The band was led by Mick Thomas, the only continual member throughout the group's history. The single "Father's Day" was nominated for Single of the Year as well as winning Song of the Year at the 1993 ARIA awards. They were renowned for their energetic live performances and in particular their annual Christmas shows at the Central Club Hotel in Swan Street, Richmond held in the lead up to Christmas Eve every year from the late 1980s to 1998. The band have reunited to play live on a number of occasions since their original breakup. ''King Tide'' is the fifth studio album released by Australian rock band Weddings Parties Anything. The album was released in October 1993 on the RooArt label and peaked at No. 20 on the ARIA Album Charts. Billy Bragg provides the vocals with Mick Thomas on "Island of Humour". "Stalactites" marks the first occasion when all members collaborated on the writing of a WPA song and it refers to a well known Melbourne restaurant. The first single from the album, "Monday's Experts", released in August 1993, peaked at No. 45 on the ARIA Singles Charts. The two subsequent singles, "The Rain in My Heart" (December 1993) and "Island of Humour" (January 1994) however failed to chart. ''Riveresque'' (styled as river''esque'') is the ninth studio album by Australian folk rockers, Weddings Parties Anything. It was released in September 1996 with band members co-producing alongside Cameron Craig and Dylan Hughes. It peaked at No. 34 on the ARIA Albums Chart. According to the inlay card: "''Riverésque'' after the style of a river winding, flowing towards the sea, meandering." It is the first album on their new record label, Mushroom Records, and was initially distributed by Festival Records. After Mushroom's CEO Michael Gudinski dropped Festival as their distributor he took up with Sony Music Australia. Bob Dylan (legally Robert Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter. Often regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Dylan has been a major figure in popular culture during a career spanning more than 60 years. The Badloves are an Australian R&B, soul band that formed as DC3 in 1990 by founding mainstay member Michael Spiby on guitar and lead vocals. They changed their name after a year.
