King Ly Chee is a hardcore band from Hong Kong. Music The band's sound is characterized by hardcore, usually with shouted verses, interspersed with melodic flourishes. History King Ly Chee was formed in May 1999 fueled by the fire and passion of a form of music called 9core. In 1999, the music climate of Hong Kong was an unhealthy world of cover bands passing themselves off as "hardcore" or "metal" while belting out tunes by Limp Bizkit. The founder of King Ly Chee, Riz, had enough and one day, he decided that it was time that someone set the record straight on what "hardcore" truly implies. He set off on the mammoth task by releasing a bilingual zine called Start From Scratch that included interviews, essays and CD reviews of world-renowned punk, metal and hardcore bands. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Sick Of It All
Sick of It All is an American hardcore punk band formed in 1986 in Queens, New York City. The band's lineup consists of brothers Lou and Pete Koller on lead vocals and guitars respectively, Armand Majidi on drums, and Craig Setari on bass. Sick of It All is considered a major part of the New York hardcore scene, and by 2020, the band had sold at least half a million records worldwide. Though their 1989 debut album ''Blood, Sweat and No Tears'' was a moderate success, Sick of It All did not achieve commercial success until later albums. After the release of their second album ''Just Look Around'' in 1992, East West Records saw the band's potential and signed them in 1993. Under One Flag is a now-defunct British record label from London, which aimed at a heavy metal audience, particularly a thrash metal audience. They were best known for re-releasing classic heavy metal albums, from the likes of Venom and Dark Angel, as well as some original releases from both bands and other heavy metal bands. Releases on vinyl by Under One Flag are sometimes still much desired collector's items. Rise and fall Under One Flag operated as a subsidiary label for Music for Nations, which later took over all Under One Flag's releases and most of the bands they signed. Unite Asia is a website dedicated to covering news about punk, hardcore, and metal music from Asia. The website features reviews, interviews, and information about latest releases from bands based in Asia or for non-Asian bands performing in Asia. Unite Asia is based in Hong Kong and was founded in 2015 by Riz Farooqi of King Ly Chee. History Unite Asia was founded in 2015 by Riz Farooqi of Hong Kong based band King Ly Chee in order to showcase the many rock and metal bands across Asia. Frustrated with the lack of media coverage for Asian bands, Farooqi decided to launch his own website in order to create a platform to grow the punk, hardcore, and metal communities. The name of the website comes from the 2007 King Ly Chee song of the same name.
