King's County (electoral District)
King's County was a federal electoral district in Prince Edward Island, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1873 to 1896. This riding was created in 1873 when Prince Edward Island joined the Canadian Confederation. It was abolished in 1892 when it was redistributed into East Queen's and King's ridings. It consisted of King's County, and elected two members. Augustine Colin Macdonald
Augustine Colin Macdonald (June 30, 1837 – July 16, 1919) was a Canadian merchant and political figure. He represented King's County and later King's in the House of Commons of Canada from 1873 to 1874, from 1878 to 1882, from 1883 to 1887 and from 1891 to 1900 as a Liberal-Conservative member. Macdonald served as the tenth Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from 1915 to 1919. He was born in Panmure Island, the son of Hugh Macdonald, a Scottish immigrant, and was educated in Georgetown and Charlottetown. Macdonald married Mary Elizabeth, the daughter of John Small MacDonald, in 1865. He served as a captain in the militia. Past Canadian Electoral Districts
This is a list of past arrangements of Canada's electoral districts. Each district sends one member to the House of Commons of Canada. In 1999 and 2003, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario was elected using the same districts within that province. 96 of Ontario's 107 provincial electoral districts, roughly those outside Northern Ontario, remain coterminous with their federal counterparts. This is a list of Canada's 338 federal electoral districts (commonly referred to as '' ridings'' in Canadian English) as defined by the ''2013 Representation Order''. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons every election. Provincial electoral districts often have names similar to their local federal counterpart, but usually have different geographic boundaries. Canadians elected members for each federal electoral district most recently in the 2021 federal election on . There are four ridings established by the British North America Act of 1867 that have existed continuously without changes to their names or being abolished and reconstituted as a riding due to redistricting: Beauce (Quebec), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Shefford (Quebec), and Simcoe North (Ontario). John McLean (Canadian Politician)
John McLean (September 24, 1846 – February 20, 1936) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented King's County in the House of Commons of Canada from 1891 to 1896 as a Conservative member. McLean represented Souris division in the Senate of Canada from 1915 until his death. He was born in Mount Herbert, the son of Daniel McLean, and was educated at Prince of Wales College. In 1852, he married Matilda Jane Jury. McLean represented 1st Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1882 to 1891, from 1900 to 1904 and from 1908 to 1915. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the riding of King's in the House of Commons in 1904. He served in the provincial Executive Council as a Minister without Portfolio from 1911 to 1915. James Edwin Robertson
James Edwin Robertson (October 8, 1840 – October 30, 1915) was a Canadian physician and politician. Born in New Perth, Prince Edward Island, the son of Peter Robertson and Annie McFarlane, Robertson was educated at McGill University where he graduated with honours in 1865, after which he located in Montague, Prince Edward Island where he has worked up a large practice. In 1870, he was acclaimed to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island for 4th Kings. He was re-elected in 1876 but was defeated in 1879. He was re-elected in 1882. He was a Minister Without Portfolio in the cabinet of Robert Poore Haythorne and Louis Henry Davies. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for King's County in the 1882 election. Malcolm McFadyen
Malcolm McFadyen (9 June 1838 – c. 15 April 1883) was a Canadian politician, who represented 4th Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1882 to 1886. He was a member of the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party. A school teacher, farmer and general merchant in Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island, McFadyen ran unsuccessfully in the 1876 provincial election, the 1878 federal election and the 1879 provincial election before being elected in the 1882 provincial election. Ephraim Bell Muttart
Ephraim Bell Muttart (March 7, 1839 – June 26, 1912) was a physician and political figure in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He represented King's County in the House of Commons of Canada from 1878 to 1882 as a Conservative member. He was born in Cape Traverse, Prince Edward Island, the son of John Muttart, of German origin, and Elizabeth Bell, a Scottish immigrant. Muttart was educated in P.E.I., in Sackville, New Brunswick and at Harvard University, receiving his M.D. there in 1861. Muttart set up practice in Souris. In 1863, he married a Miss McDonald. Muttart also was coroner and was medical referee for the Standard and Canada Life Assurance companies. He was unsuccessful in bids for reelection in 1882 and 1887. Kings County, Prince Edward Island
Kings County (2021 population 18,327) is located in eastern Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the province's smallest, most rural and least-populated county. Kings County is also least dependent upon the agriculture industry compared with the other two counties, while being more heavily dependent on the fishery and forest industry. Comparatively large parts of the county are still forested and it hosts the province's largest sawmill. The only heavy industry, aside from forestry and industrial farming, is a small shipyard, although secondary manufacturing has been established in recent years. The county was named by Capt. Samuel Holland in 1765 for King George III (1738–1820). As such, Kings County's shire town is Georgetown. The largest community within the town of Three Rivers.
