Kilmarnock Athletic Football Club was an association football club from Ayrshire in Scotland. History On 5 May 1877, the Kilmarnock Cricket Club hosted a charity match between an Ayrshire select and a Glasgow select, in order to raise funds for a statue in honour of Robert Burns, on its Holm Quarry ground. The match was a success, and, in the aftermath, the K.C.C. took over the Winton F.C. (Kilmarnock), Winton club in order to continue hosting football. For its first season the club was known as the Kilmarnock Cricket and Football Club and its first competitive match was a 4–0 win over Maybole Thistle F.C., Maybole Thistle in the first round of the 1877–78 Scottish Cup, with players such as goalkeeper M'Lelland, plus Whyte, Smith, Cunningham, Goudie, Ferguson, and captain Kennedy having been part of the Winton regular XI. Dumbarton (; also sco, Dumbairton; ) is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven flows into the Clyde estuary. In 2006, it had an estimated population of 19,990. Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde, and later the county town of Dunbartonshire. Alec Dick (footballer)
Alexander Dick (1865 – 1925) was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Everton. Background Dick was signed by a local club, Kilmarnock Athletic in 1884. He then moved south to England and signed for Liverpool club Stanley F.C. in 1885. He was discovered by Everton and signed by them in August 1886. Before the Football League era he played 81 times for Everton. He made his FA Cup debut against Bolton Wanderers in October 1887. Dick was the first Scottish professional signed by Everton; he was a combative full–back who looked like becoming the established right-back for the club during the inaugural Football League season, but was suspended for a large part of the campaign after striking an opponent at Notts County. Preston North End Football Club, commonly referred to as Preston, North End or PNE, is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, England, who currently play in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Originally a cricket club, Preston has been based at Deepdale since 1875. The club first took up football in 1878 as a winter fitness activity and decided to focus on it in May 1880, when the football club was officially founded. John Goodall
John Goodall (19 June 1863 – 20 May 1942) was a footballer who rose to fame as a centre forward for England and for Preston North End at the time of the development of the Football League, and also became Watford's first manager in 1903. He also played cricket in the County Championship for Derbyshire in 1895 and 1896, being one of 19 players to achieve the Derbyshire Double of playing cricket for Derbyshire and football for Derby County.
