''Killin the Vibe'' is a limited edition EP by American psychedelic pop act Ducktails, released in 2011 on primary recording artist Matt Mondanile's own label, New Images. The original version of the title track appears on the project's third studio album, '' Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics'' (2011). Indie Rock
Indie rock is a subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or " guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement, Pixies and R.E.M. The Flower Lane
''The Flower Lane'' is the fourth studio album by the American indie rock project Ducktails, released on January 28, 2013 on Domino. Co-produced by Matt Mondanile and Al Carlson, ''The Flower Lane'' was the first Ducktails album to be recorded in a full studio environment. The album's overall aesthetic resembles a full band recording, and features contributions from Big Troubles, Joel Ford, Daniel Lopatin, Sam Mehran, Martin Courtney and Madeline Follin. Background and recording The album was recorded in 2012 at Gary's Electric Studio, in Brooklyn, New York. Regarding the recording location, primary recording artist Matt Mondanile noted: "I loved recording at Gary’s Electric Studio because it’s like four or five blocks from my house, so every day I’d get out of bed and spend about twelve hours there. Psychedelic Pop
Psychedelic pop (or acid pop) is pop music that contains musical characteristics associated with psychedelic music. Developing in the late 1960s, elements included "trippy" features such as fuzz guitars, tape manipulation, backwards recording, sitars, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, wedded to melodic songs with tight song structures. The style lasted into the early 1970s. It has seen revivals in subsequent decades by neo-psychedelic artists. Characteristics According to AllMusic, psychedelic pop was not too "freaky", but also not very " bubblegum" either. It appropriated the effects associated with straight psychedelic music, applying their innovations to concise pop songs. Matthew A. Mondanile is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is best known as the former lead guitarist of the American indie rock band Real Estate (band), Real Estate, with whom he recorded three studio albums, and for his solo music project Ducktails (music), Ducktails. Early life Mondanile was born as Matthew Anthony Mondanile. He attended Ridgewood High School (New Jersey), Ridgewood High School with two of his future Real Estate bandmates, Martin Courtney and Alex Bleeker. Mondanile auditioned the former to join his high school band as a bass player but opted for an older schoolmate with a car, while the latter learned how to play Pixies (band), Pixies songs from Mondanile, along with taking guitar lessons together. Panda Bear (musician)
Noah Benjamin Lennox (born July 17, 1978), also known by his moniker Panda Bear, is an American musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and co-founding member of the band Animal Collective. In addition to his work with that group, Lennox has released six solo LPs since 1999, with his influential 2007 album ''Person Pitch'' inspiring numerous subsequent acts. Woods is an American folk rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2005. The band consists of Jeremy Earl (vocals, guitar), Jarvis Taveniere (various instruments, production), Aaron Neveu (drums), Chuck Van Dyck (bass), and Kyle Forester (keyboards, sax). The band's former bassist, Kevin Morby, left the band in 2013. Woods have released 11 albums, the latest being ''Strange to Explain''.
