Kiliia Raion
Kiliia Raion () was a raion (district) in Odesa Oblast of Ukraine. It was part of the historical region of Bessarabia. Its administrative center was the city of Kiliia. The small sector of the Danube Delta that lies in Ukraine lied partially in this raion. The raion was abolished and its territory was merged into Izmail Raion on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Odesa Oblast to seven. Raions of Ukraine (often translated as "districts"; Ukrainian: ра́йон, tr. ''raion''; plural: райо́ни, tr. ''raiony'') are the second level of administrative division in Ukraine, below the oblast. Danube Delta
The Danube Delta ( ro, Delta Dunării, ; uk, Дельта Дунаю, Deľta Dunaju, ) is the second largest river delta in Europe, after the Volga Delta, and is the best preserved on the continent. Bile, Odesa Oblast
Bile ( uk, Біле, Bile) is the only village on Snake Island, in Izmail Raion in Odesa Oblast, southern Ukraine. It belongs to the Vylkove urban hromada, one of the hromadas (municipalities) of Ukraine. History Bile was founded in 2007 on Snake Island to serve Ukraine in a then ongoing dispute with Romania regarding the territorial waters surrounding the island. This was criticized by Romania, which tried to prove that the village in Snake Island could not constitute a permanent settlement. The dispute ended in 2009 following mediation by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which ruled that Romania would get 80% of the disputed maritime area. This was accepted by both sides.
