Kildress Wolfe Tones are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from County Tyrone. History The first record of a football match that can be found was played on a June Sunday in 1904 in Gortreagh when a game was arranged to coincide with the formation of a Gaelic football team there. P.T. Devlin told of his memories of that day in a letter to "''The'' ''Dungannon Observer''" dated 8 May 1954. Kildress was named after Theobald Wolfe Tone.Theobald Wolfe Tone Kildress's team is green, white and orange, the badge bears the symbol of the Beaghmore Stone Circles, a major landmark in Kildress. Kildress currently play in the Division 2 of the Tyrone League. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Theobald Wolfe Tone
Theobald Wolfe Tone, posthumously known as Wolfe Tone ( ga, Bhulbh Teón; 20 June 176319 November 1798), was a leading Irish revolutionary figure and one of the founding members in Belfast and Dublin of the United Irishmen, a republican society determined to end British rule, and achieve accountable government, in Ireland. Throughout his political career, Tone was involved in a number of military engagements against the British navy. He was active in drawing Irish Catholics and Protestants together in the United cause, and in soliciting French assistance for a general insurrection. In November 1798, on his second attempt to land in Ireland with French troops and supplies, he was captured by British naval forces. The United Irish risings of the summer had already been crushed. Beaghmore
Beaghmore is a complex of early Bronze Age megalithic features, stone circles and cairns, 8.5 miles north west of Cookstown, County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, on the south-east edge of the Sperrin Mountains. Mackay's ''Dictionary of Ulster Place-names'' says that it is from Irish ''an Bheitheach Mhór'', meaning "big place of birch trees", a name that reflects the fact that the area was a woodland before being cleared by Neolithic farmers. Tyrone Intermediate Football Championship
The Tyrone Intermediate Football Club Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the LCC Group Tyrone Intermediate Football Club Championship) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Tyrone GAA clubs. Galbally Pearses are the title holders (2022) defeating Edendork St Malachy's in the final. History The tournament was first held in 1962, with Cookstown the first champions defeating Galbally in the final. The semi-final of the 2021 Tyrone Intermediate Football Championship was abandoned after eight minutes and an Air Ambulance had to land on the pitch at Healy Park to care for the injured. Cathal Corey
Cathal Corey () is a Gaelic football manager and former player from County Tyrone. He played for the Kildress Wolfe Tones club, though he never played for his county. However, he has managed several clubs throughout Ulster, as well as the Sligo county team. His most noted achievement in club management is leading Naomh Conaill to both the Donegal Senior Football Championship and the final of the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship in 2010. Management career Corey managed Kildress Wolfe Tones in his native county, as well as Castledawson, Banagher and Slaughtneil in Derry, leading Slaughtneil to a league title. Tony Scullion
Tony "The Tiger" Scullion (born 6 February 1962) is a former dual player of Gaelic games who played Gaelic football and hurling with Derry in the 1980s and 1990s. He is chiefly known as a footballer and was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, also winning Ulster Senior Football Championships in 1987 and 1993. With Derry footballers he usually played in the full-back line and is regarded as one of the best full-backs of his generation. Scullion played club football and hurling with St Colm's GAC Ballinascreen. Johnny McGurk
John McGurk (born 3 November 1965) is a former dual player of Gaelic games who played Gaelic football at senior level for the Derry county team in the 1980s and 1990s. He was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side and also won two Ulster Championships with the side. For his performances in the 1993 Championship he won an All Stars Award. McGurk also won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1991 with his club Lavey, where he was captain. He was one of very few players in Ireland to complete this unique double and almost did the extreme rarity of winning both competitions in the same year in 1993, but Lavey were defeated in the All-Ireland club after winning their second Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. Gavin Devlin
Gavin Devlin is a Gaelic footballer who plays for the Ardboe club. He is a former member of the Tyrone county team, winning two All-Ireland SFCs. Playing career Youth Devlin had considerable success at county youth level. He has won one All Ireland minor Championship (1998) and two All-Ireland Under 21 Championships in 2000 and 2001.
