Kigoriak
''Kigoriak'' ( rus, Кигориак) is a Russian icebreaking anchor handling tug supply vessel. Built by Saint John Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company for Canadian Marine Drilling (Canmar) in 1979 as ''Canmar Kigoriak'', she was the first commercial icebreaking vessel developed to support offshore oil exploration in the Beaufort Sea. When Canmar's icebreaker fleet was sold in 1997, the vessel's name was shortened to ''Kigoria'' and she was reflagged to Liberia. For the next six years, International Transport Contractors used the icebreaker mainly for ocean towage and salvage operations in the Atlantic Ocean. The vessel changed hands again in 2003 when she was sold to her current owner, FEMCO Group, and renamed first ''Talagy'' (Russian: ''Талаги'') and, in 2010, ''Kigoriak''. Saint John Shipbuilding
Saint John Shipbuilding was a Canadian shipbuilding company located in Saint John, New Brunswick. The shipyard was active from 1923 to 2003. History Numerous shipyards were located on the shores of Courtney Bay in the east end of Saint John Harbour where extensive mud flats dried at low tide. In 1918 it was announced that the St. John Drydock & Shipbuilding Co. would be established as a subsidiary of the Canada Dredging Co., Ltd. of Midland, Ontario and would construct the largest drydock in the world. The new shipyard with its massive drydock opened in 1923 at a location on the eastern shore of Courtney Bay. Dome Petroleum Limited was a Calgary-based oil and gas company. Founded in 1950 as a subsidiary of the Toronto company Dome Mines Limited, Dome was built by Jack Gallagher, who remained with the company until 1983. In 1988 Dome was purchased by Amoco. In marine propulsion, a variable-pitch propeller is a type of propeller with blades that can be rotated around their long axis to change the blade pitch. Reversible propellers—those where the pitch can be set to negative values—can also create reverse thrust for braking or going backwards without the need to change the direction of shaft revolution. A controllable pitch propeller (CPP) can be efficient for the full range of rotational speeds and load conditions, since its pitch will be varied to absorb the maximum power that the engine is capable of producing. A ducted propeller, also known as a Kort nozzle, is a marine propeller fitted with a non-rotating nozzle. It is used to improve the efficiency of the propeller and is especially used on heavily loaded propellers or propellers with limited diameter. It was developed first by Luigi Stipa (1931) and later by Ludwig Kort (1934). The Kort nozzle is a shrouded propeller assembly for marine propulsion.
