Assaba
Assaba ( ar, ولاية العصابة) is a region in southern Mauritania, covering an area of 36,600 square km. It had a population of 325,897 at the 2013 Census. Its capital is Kifa. Other major cities/towns include Guerou. The region borders the Mauritanian regions of Brakna and Tagant to the north, the Mauritanian region of Hodh El Gharbi to the east, Mali to the south and the Mauritanian regions of Gorgol and Guidimaka to the west. The Aoukar basin, which formerly gave name to the greater region, is located in the north and the east of the central part of Assaba. Demographics As of 2013, the population of the region was 325,897, compared to 338,708 in 2011. There were 46.73 percent females and 53.27 percent males. Kiffa
Kiffa () is a large town in the far south region of Mauritania, and the name of an administrative area within the local Assaba Region. Kiffa is located at , some from the coast and at the western end of the Aoukar sand sea of southern Mauritania. Climate Kiffa has a hot desert climate (Köppen climate classification ''BWh''). The climate is Sahelian, with April to June as the hottest months and eighty-five percent of the low annual rainfall occurring from July to September. In the 1990s and early 2000s Kiffa benefited from higher rainfall levels than elsewhere in the western Sahel. While Kiffa benefits from the ongoing "greening of the Sahel" the area's rangeland forage ecosystems remain vulnerable and can be subject to damaging overgrazing. Kouroudel
Kouroudjel ( ar, كروجل) is a village and rural commune in Mauritania. Location Kouroudjel is a commune in the Kiffa Moughataa of the Assaba Wilaya. The commune of Kouroudjel lies to the south of the commune of Kiffa. The village is on the road leading north from Kankossa to Kiffa, where it joins the RN3 highway. Oasis Kouroudjel is in the Sahel, and is an oasis with palm groves. Kouroudjel has depressions with clay-sand beds holding a few clumps of doum palms (''Hyphaene thebaica''). The date palms (''Phoenix dactylifera'') mostly grow in sand and silt soils, as opposed to bare sandy soils. They are protected from grazing herds by fences.
