Kieran Block
Kieran T. Block (born June 14, 1985) is a Canadian ice hockey and ice sledge hockey player. Most notably, he has won championships with the Medicine Hat Tigers (2004) and Canada men's national ice sledge hockey team (2013). As of 2019, Block coaches the EASA Storm. A graduate of the University of Alberta, Block now works as a teacher and motivational speaker. His autobiography, ''The Ups and Downs of Almost Dying'', was released in August 2017 on the 10th anniversary of the cliff-jumping accident that nearly killed him. Hockey career Block played in the Western Hockey League from 2001 to 2006. Following a single season with the Vancouver Giants, Block was traded to the Medicine Hat Tigers where he remained for four seasons, winning the league championship in 2004. Canada Men's National Ice Sledge Hockey Team
The Canada national ice sledge hockey team is the men's team representing Canada at international competition. The team has been overseen since 2003 by Hockey Canada, a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation. From 1993 until 2003, the team was an associate member of Hockey Canada. Since 2010 international para ice hockey has been a mixed event but Team Canada has yet to name a female player to its roster for any tournament. Jasper National Park
Jasper National Park is a national park in Alberta, Canada. It is the largest national park within Alberta's Rocky Mountains spanning . Stony Plain Eagles
The Stony Plain Eagles are a senior ice hockey team based in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada. Founded in the 1930s, the team moved up to the Senior AAA ranks in 1992. They played in the Allan Cup Hockey West until 2020. The Eagles were the 1999 Allan Cup National Senior champions of Canada. History In 1987, the Eagles would win both the Alberta and Western Canada Intermediate "A" Championship, but lost the Hardy Cup Intermediate National Championship in straight games to Miramichi Gagnon Packers. From 1992 until 2003, the Eagles captured twelve consecutive Alberta Senior AAA Provincial Championships, reaching six Allan Cup finals in that time. Matt Cook (ice Sledge Hockey)
Matthew Cook (November 10, 1987 – April 4, 2010) was a Canadian ice sledge hockey player. Before the age of 18, Cook played Junior A for the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He had his leg amputated below the knee in 2006, at the age of 18, after unsuccessful chemotherapy when doctors discovered cancer on his left leg. Cook began playing ice sledge hockey in 2007, at a Team Alberta Summer development camp. Cook was a member of the Canada men's national ice sledge hockey team, first making the team in September 2008. He won bronze with them in the 2009 World Championships. Alberta Golden Bears
The Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas are the sports teams that represent the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Alberta athletics teams have won a total of 93 national championships, including 79 U Sports sanctioned sports, making it one of the most successful programs in the country. Vancouver Giants
The Vancouver Giants are a major junior ice hockey team playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Inaugurated in 2001–02, the Giants have won one President's Cup (now known as the Ed Chynoweth Cup) in 2006 and one Memorial Cup in 2007 in their 16-season history. Medicine Hat Tigers
The Medicine Hat Tigers are a junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who play in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Established in 1970, the team has won two national Memorial Cups, five WHL League Championships and seven Division Titles, and continues to rally for the Cup annually. Starting in the 2015–16 season, the Tigers have begun play at Co-op Place after forty-five seasons at the Medicine Hat Arena. They had a sell-out streak at The Arena dating back 197 games (as of May 15, 2007).
