Kevin Phelan
Kevin Phelan (born 8 November 1990) is an Irish professional golfer who finished T62nd at the 2013 U.S. Open. Phelan was born in Waterford, Ireland and grew up in St. Augustine, Florida. He played college golf at the University of North Florida. He turned professional in September 2013. Phelan finished T-17 at the European Tour Qualifying School to earn his 2014 European Tour card, after playing in all three stages. 2013 European Amateur Team Championship
The 2013 European Amateur Team Championship took place 9–13 July at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club in Silkeborg, located in the middle of the Jutlandic peninsula, Denmark. It was the 30th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The club was founded as Silkeborg Golf Club in 1965 and its first 18-hole course was fully developed in 1968. In early 2013 the club merged with Ry Golf Club and under the new name Silkeborg Ry Golf Club expanded to 54 holes. Format The number of entering nation teams was, for the first time limited to 16. A second division, named European Men's Challenge Trophy, took place 10–13 July 2013 in the Czech Republic, giving the participating teams the opportunity to qualify for next year's championship. 2013 Walker Cup
The 44th Walker Cup Match was played on September 7 and 8, 2013 at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, New York. The United States won 17 to 9. Format On Saturday, there are four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. On Sunday, there are again four matches of foursomes in the morning, followed by ten singles matches (involving every player) in the afternoon. In all, 26 matches are played. Each of the 26 matches is worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole extra holes are not played. Rather, each side earns ½ a point toward their team total. The team that accumulates at least 13½ points wins the competition. In the event of a tie, the previous winner retains the Cup. Walker Cup
The Walker Cup is a golf trophy contested in odd-numbered years by leading male amateur golfers in two teams: United States, and Great Britain and Ireland. The official name is the Walker Cup Match (not "Matches" as in Ryder Cup Matches). It is organised by The R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA). In 1921 the Royal Liverpool Golf Club hosted an unofficial contest which was followed by official annual contests from 1922 through 1924. From 1925 they became biennial, held on even-number years. After World War II they switched to odd-numbered years. They are held alternately in the U.S., and Ireland or Britain. The cup is named after George Herbert Walker who was president of the USGA in 1920 when the match was initiated. Walker is the grandfather and namesake of George H. W. The 2013 Palmer Cup was held on June 7–9, 2013 on the South Course at Wilmington Country Club, Wilmington, Delaware. The United States won 20½ to 9½. The teams were increased from 8 to 10. Format The order of the sessions was changed. On Friday, there were five matches of four-ball, while there were ten singles matches on Saturday. Palmer Cup
The Arnold Palmer Cup is an annual team golf competition for college/university golfers. From 2018 it has been contested between a United States team and an International team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women. The teams are selected on the basis of nationality, not according to the location of the players' universities. The 2023 event will be held from June 10 to 12 at Laurel Valley Golf Club, near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. History From its foundation in 1997 until 2017 the event was only contested by men. From 1997 until 2002 the United States played Great Britain & Ireland while from 2003 to 2017 the United States played a European team.
