The Keswick family (pronounced with a silent "w", "Kezzick") are a business dynasty of Scottish origin associated with the Far East region since 1855 and in particular the conglomerate Jardine Matheson. As tai-pans of Jardine Matheson & Company, the Keswick family have at some time been closely associated with the ownership or management of the HSBC, the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company Ltd., the Canton Insurance Office Ltd, (now the HSBC Insurance Co), The Hongkong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company Limited, Star Ferry, Hong Kong Tramway, the Hong Kong Land Investment and Agency Co Ltd, and the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Co Ltd. Cutty Sark (yacht)
Not to be confused with the famous tea clipper, the private steam yacht ''Cutty Sark'' was built, from plates originally destined for an S class destroyer, by Yarrow and Co Ltd of Scotstoun for Major Henry Keswick (1870–1928) of Jardine’s. She was launched on 18 March 1920. She had a length of ; beam of and draught of , and a gross registered tonnage of 883. Originally she had 4 Yarrow turbines of giving her a speed of . Though fast, she was uncomfortable in anything like a sea. Circumnavigation Major Keswick took her on a round the world voyage to visit Jardine’s interests in the Far East. She left Stranraer on 4 November 1920 and arrived back at that port on 26 July 1921. Henry Keswick (1870 – 29 November 1928) was a British Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician and businessman and member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, Executive Council and Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Sir Harry Smith Parkes (24 February 1828 – 22 March 1885) was a British diplomat who served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary and Consul General of the United Kingdom to the Empire of Japan from 1865 to 1883 and the Chinese Qing Empire from 1883 to 1885, and Minister to Korea in 1884. James Johnstone Keswick
James Johnstone Keswick (1845–1914) was a Scottish businessman in China and Hong Kong. He was the tai-pan of the Jardine Matheson & Co. Biography He was the son of the Thomas Keswick, and younger brother of William Keswick, who was the founder of the Keswick family. He arrived in the Far East in 1870 and remained there for 26 years. He became a partner of the Messrs Jardine, Matheson & co. and tai-pan of the firm from the 1890s. He founded Hongkong Land together with his close associate Sir Paul Chater. Eastwick Park, also Eastwich Park, at Great Bookham in Surrey, England (for the period 1726–1958) was the family seat of the Howards of Effingham for about seventy years.
