Mary Kessell
Mary Merlin Kessell (13 November 1914 – 1977)Les peintres Britannique dans les salons parisiens des origines a 1939, Béatrice Crespon-Halotier, Oliver Meslay, Echelle de Jacob, 2003, p. 308 was a British figurative painter, illustrator, designer and war artist. Born in London, she studied at the Clapham School of Art, then later at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. At the end of the Second World War, she was commissioned to work in Germany as an official British war artist; one of only three women selected. She spent six weeks in Germany, travelling to the recently liberated Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as well as other major cities including Berlin. She produced charcoal drawings of refugees, primarily of women and children which she subsequently sold to the War Artists Advisory Committee. Richard John "Rick" Kessell (born July 27, 1949) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins and California Golden Seals. Career Drafted 15th overall by the Penguins in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft, Kessell played 135 regular season games, scoring 4 goals and 24 assists for 28 career points. One of his only 4 goals would come on March 21, 1970 during his first NHL game. Despite his brief NHL career Kessell excelled in juniors, the minors and senior hockey.
