Kesbewa Urban Council ( si, කැස්බෑව නගර සභාව, ta, கெஸ்பேவா நகர சபை) is the Local government in Sri Lanka, local authority for the city of Kesbewa and surrounding suburbs in Sri Lanka. The vision of the council as stated on their website is: History In 1987, a new local government system called Pradeshiya Sabha was introduced. The jurisdiction of a Pradeshiya Sabha was mostly confined to a Divisional Secretariat, and accordingly the Kesbewa Pradeshiya Sabha was incorporated with effect from 1 January 1988. The Pradeshiya Sabha functioned in accordance with the provisions of the Pradeshiya Sabha Act No. 15 of 1987. ''Grama Niladhari'' (''village officers'') ( si, ග්රාම නිලධාරී) is a Sri Lankan public official appointed by the central government to carry out administrative duties in a ''grama niladhari'' division, which is a sub-unit of a divisional secretariat. They come under the Grama Niladhari Division under the Home Affairs Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. There are 14,022 grama niladhari divisions under 331 divisional secretary’s division in the island. The duties of a ''grama niladhari'' include the reporting of issuing of permits, gathering statistics, maintaining the voter registry and keeping the peace by settlement of personal disputes. Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council (DMMC) is the local authority for the city of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia in Sri Lanka. Bolgoda Lake or Bolgoda River ( si, බොල්ගොඩ වැව, ta, போல்கோடா ஏரி) is a freshwater lake in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, straddling the border between Colombo District and Kalutara District. Homagama is a town in the Colombo District, Sri Lanka, about south-east of Colombo. The Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha consists of the Homagama divisional secretariat and 10 GN division of Padukka DS division. The total Land area is about is of 90 GN division. Kottawa ( si, කොට්ටාව, ta, கொட்டாவை) is one of the main suburbs in Colombo, Sri Lanka and is administered by the Maharagama Urban Council. It is located from the centre of Colombo. History The name Kottawa is derived from the Sinhalese phrase ''kotten awa'', meaning "The city of greats". Later the name was shortened to "Kottawa".
