Keravnos B.C. (Greek: Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Στροβόλου «Ο Κεραυνός»), also known as Keravnos Strovolou, is a professional basketball club based in Strovolos, Nicosia, Cyprus. It plays its home games in the Costas Papaellinas Arena, which has a capacity of 2,000 spectators. The club’s president since 1996 is businessman Paris C. Papaellinas, who has also been the main sponsor of the club for the last 20 years. History The men's basketball department of Keravnos was established in 1964. The club was one of the founding members of the Cyprus Basketball Federation in 1966 and won its first Cyprus Basketball Division A, national league in 1989. Cyprus Basketball Division A
The Cypriot Basketball Division A is currently the top-tier level men's professional basketball competition of the Cypriot basketball league system. It is run and governed by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. Format At present, six clubs compete in the league. Since the 2016–17 season, the six teams play each other four times during the regular season, with the top 4 teams reaching the play-off semi-finals stage. One team (the last one) at the end of the season is relegated to the second division, whilst one team from the second division is promoted. The play-off semi-finals and the championship winner will be decided after three wins. The championship winner, along with the winners of the Cypriot Cup, will qualify to compete in the next season's FIBA's European-wide continental competitions. Cypriot Basketball Cup
The Cypriot Basketball Cup is an annual professional basketball national cup competition, organized by the Cyprus Basketball Federation since 1969. Format Starting in 2007, the Cypriot Cup competition's format changed to where only teams from the Cyprus Basketball Division A, Cypriot A Division compete at the cup. The cup employs a knock-out stage and a final four format. The Cup's winner automatically qualifies to compete in the next season of the FIBA Europe Cup competition. The 2016–17 Cyprus Basketball Division A was the 50th season of the Cyprus Basketball Division A, the top-tier level men's professional basketball league on Cyprus. The season started on 29 October 2016, and ended in May 2017. AEK Larnaca was the defending champion, and lost the title to Keravnos in the finals. The 2018–19 Cyprus Basketball Division A is the 52nd season of the Cyprus Basketball Division A, the top-tier level men's professional basketball league on Cyprus. It started on 13 October 2018. Competition format Eight teams joined the regular season, where after a three-legs round-robin tournament, the four first qualified would join the playoffs for the title. AEL and Omonia promoted from Division 2 while APOP was relegated. Cypriot Basketball Super Cup
The Cypriot Basketball Super Cup is a men's professional basketball competition in Cyprus, organized by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. It is contested by the champion of the Cypriot First Division and the winner of the Cypriot Cup. History The first Cypriot Super Cup match was played in 1985, with AEL winning the trophy, after beating ENAD 78–75. From 195 until 1994, the competition was held under the name "Independence Shield", but in the following years it was called, the "Federation Cup". From 2005 until 2009, the competition was dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Helios Airways Flight 522 plane crash, which took place at Grammatiko, in 2005. Michalis Kakiouzis
Michalis "Mika" Kakiouzis (alternate spellings: Michail, Michailis, Mihalis) (Greek: Μιχάλης Κακιούζης; born November 29, 1976) is a Greek professional basketball coach and former player. He is currently working as head coach for Keravnos of the Cyprus Basketball Division A. At a height of 2.07 m (6 ft. 9 in.) tall, he was able to play at both the small forward and power forward positions. Early years Kakiouzis began playing basketball at the age of 8, with the youth academies of Ionikos NF, in Greece. Guy Pnini (Hebrew: גיא פניני) (born September 4, 1983) is an Israeli professional basketball player who currently plays for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv of the Israeli Premier League and the EuroLeague. The FIBA EuroCup Challenge was the 4th-tier level (it was the 3rd-tier level during the inaugural 2002–03 season), transnational professional continental club basketball competition in Europe. Mike King (basketball)
Michael Antonio King (born March 26, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. College career King played collegiate for The George Washington University. He attended Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he won a Maryland 4A state championship as a sophomore. He then had Lake Clifton High School ranked 11th in the nation as a senior. He was a High School All-American Honorable Mention. As a 6' 4" combo guard, King was named to the Atlantic 10 All Rookie Team in 1998. He also scored over 1,000 points at George Washington University and is 4th all time in steals. He helped the team to a number of NCAA tournaments and Atlantic 10 championships.
