Kentucky Route 227 (KY 227) is a state highway in Kentucky that runs from U.S. Route 460 (US 460) near Georgetown, Kentucky to US 42 and KY 36 in Carrollton, Kentucky. Route description KY 227 starts north in Scott County and goes through Stamping Ground before entering Owen County. Just southeast of Owenton, KY 227 meets KY 22 and joins it on its way to Owenton. Just before entering downtown Owenton, US 127 joins the route. In downtown Owenton, KY 22 leaves and KY 227 and US 127 travel north alone. Just north of the Owenton city limits, KY 227 leaves US 127 and begins traveling toward New Liberty on a stretch of road that was formerly numbered 978. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is Kentucky's state-funded agency charged with building and maintaining federal highways and Kentucky state highways, as well as regulating other transportation related issues. The Transportation Cabinet is led by the Kentucky Secretary of Transportation, who is appointed by the governor of Kentucky. The current Secretary is Jim Gray, who was appointed by Democratic Governor Andy Beshear. As of October 2012, KYTC maintains of roadways in the state. Interstate 71 (I-71) is a north–south Interstate Highway in the Great Lakes/Midwestern and Southeastern region of the United States. Its southern terminus is at an interchange with I-64 and I-65 (the Kennedy Interchange) in Louisville, Kentucky, and its northern terminus at an interchange with I-90 in Cleveland, Ohio. I-71 runs concurrently with I-75 from a point about south of Cincinnati, Ohio, into Downtown Cincinnati. State highways in Kentucky are maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which classifies routes as either primary or secondary. Some routes, such as Kentucky Route 80, are both primary and secondary, with only a segment of the route listed as part of the primary system. Owenton is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Owen County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,327 at the 2010 census. It is located at the junction of U.S. Route 127 and Kentucky Route 22, about halfway between Louisville and Cincinnati. History Owenton was founded in 1822 and named for its county, which was named for Col. Abraham Owen, a pioneer who died at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The town was first incorporated on December 18, 1828, although it had to be reincorporated in 1849. The Greek Revival courthouse was built between 1857 and 1858. Kentucky Route 627 (KY 627) is a north–south state highway in east-central Kentucky. It traverses portions of northern Madison, Clark, and southern Bourbon counties. Route description KY 627 begins in northern Madison County at the concurrently running part of highways U.S. Route 25 and U.S. Route 421 (US 25/US 421) north of Richmond. Just east of that is an interchange with Interstate 75 (I-75).
