Kentropyx Borckiana
''Kentropyx borckiana'', commonly known as the Guyana kentropyx, is a species of lizard in the family Teiidae. The species is endemic to northeastern South America. Geographic range ''Kentropyx borckiana'' is found in Guyana, French Guiana, Suriname, and on the Caribbean island of Barbados. Parthenogenesis ''K. borckiana'' is apparently a rare unisexual clone that reproduces through parthenogenesis, in that only 100 female museum specimens are known to exist and no male specimens. It is believed to have arisen from hybridization between '' Kentropyx calcarata'' and ''Kentropyx striata''. Etymology The specific name, ''borckiana'', is in honor of Johann Graf von Borcke (1781-1862), a major in the Prussian Army who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. Borcke presented a number of specimens to the Berlin Museum. Description ''Kentropyx borckiana'' grows up to snout-to-vent. Its head and neck are greenish, with white underneath. Geographic range The striped forest whiptail lives in the South American countries of Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela and northeastern South American countries such as French Guiana and Suriname. Parasites ''Kentropyx calcarata'' specimens are sometimes plagued by the parasitic protist, ''Plasmodium lepidoptiformis ''Plasmodium lepidoptiformis'' is a parasite of the genus ''Plasmodium''. Like all ''Plasmodium'' species ''P. lepidoptiformis'' has both vertebrate and insect hosts. The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are lizards. Description This speci ...''.Telford SB Jr, Telfor ...

François Marie Daudin
François Marie Daudin (; 29 August 1776 in Paris – 30 November 1803 in Paris) was a French zoologist. With legs paralyzed by childhood disease, he studied physics and natural history, but ended up being devoted to the latter. Daudin wrote ' (Complete and Elementary Treatise of Ornithology) in 1799–1800. It was one of the first modern handbooks of ornithology, combining Linnean binomial nomenclature with the anatomical and physiological descriptions of Buffon. While an excellent beginning, it was never completed. In 1800, he also published ''Recueil de mémoires et de notes sur des espèces inédites ou peu connues de mollusques, de vers et de zoophytes'' (Collection of memories and notes on new or little-known species of molluscs, worms and zoophytes). Daudin found his greatest success in herpetology. He published ''Histoire naturelle des reinettes, des grenouilles et des crapauds'' (Natural history of tree frogs, frogs and toads) in 1802, and ''Histoire naturelle, gé ...

Teiidae
Teiidae is a family of autarchoglossan lizards native to the Americas. Members of this family are generally known as whiptails or racerunners; however, tegus also belong to this family. Teiidae is sister to the Gymnopthalmidae, and both families comprise the Teiioidea. The Teiidae includes several parthenogenic species – a mode of clonal reproduction. Presently, the Teiidae consists of approximately 150 species in eighteen genera. Morphology and behavior Teiids can be distinguished from other lizards by the following characteristics: they have large rectangular scales that form distinct transverse rows ventrally and generally small granular scales dorsally, they have head scales that are separate from the skull bones, and the teiid teeth are solid at the base and "glued" to the jaw bones. Additionally, all teiids have a forked, snake-like tongue. They all possess well-developed limbs. Teiids are all terrestrial (few are semi-aquatic) and diurnal, and are primarily carnivor ...
