Kent Howerton
Kent Howerton (born July 11, 1954) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1973 to 1988. Howerton is notable for being a three-time motocross national champion. Motocross career Born in Wichita, Kansas, Howerton was raised in San Antonio, Texas, where he began racing motocross. In 1973 he began competing in the AMA motocross national championship series, and by 1974 he had won his first national race in the 250cc class. For the 1975 season, he was offered a job to ride for the Husqvarna factory racing team and finished the season is second place behind Tony DiStefano. Howerton would win the 500cc AMA Motocross National Championship in 1976 for Husqvarna. Anthony Joseph DiStefano Jr. (born February 6, 1957) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1973 to 1981. A three-time AMA 250cc motocross national champion, DiStefano was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999. Motocross career Born in Bristol, Pennsylvania, DiStefano was the son of a motorcycle shop owner and began riding motorcycles at an early age. Steve Stackable (born July 3, 1954) is an American former professional motocross racer and current hang glider instructor. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1974 to 1981. Stackable is notable for winning the 1975 AMA 500cc Supercross national championship. Motocross career Stackable was born in Wiesbaden, Germany where his father served in the U.S. Military. He was raised in Wyoming and briefly in Japan before his family settled in Austin, Texas when he was 16-years-old. Stackable purchased a 175cc Yamaha motorcycle and began racing motocross in the early 1970s, easily winning his first races as a novice class racer.
