Kent County High School (KCHS) is a public school located in Worton, Maryland in Kent County. It is the only high school within Kent County, is part of the Kent County Public Schools district, and serves students from ninth through twelfth grades. Trojans are the school mascot and the school colors are blue and gold. The student body is 2/3 white. Overview The school is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the small rural town of Worton. The school campus is shared by Worton Elementary School, Kent County Community Center, and the Worton Regional Park. Worton is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Kent County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 249. The Christ Church, Graveyard and Sexton's House complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Geography Worton is located along Maryland Route 297 at the crossing of the Maryland and Delaware Railroad, north of Chestertown, the Kent county seat. It is bordered to the north by Butlertown. Henry Highland Garnet
Henry Highland Garnet (December 23, 1815 – February 13, 1882) was an African-American abolitionist, minister, educator and orator. Having escaped as a child from slavery in Maryland with his family, he grew up in New York City. He was educated at the African Free School and other institutions, and became an advocate of militant abolitionism. He became a minister and based his drive for abolitionism in religion. Garnet was a prominent member of the movement that led beyond moral suasion toward more political action. Renowned for his skills as a public speaker, he urged black Americans to take action and claim their own destinies. For a period, he supported emigration of American free blacks to Mexico, Liberia, or the West Indies, but the American Civil War ended that effort. Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA), is the association that oversees public high school sporting contests in the state of Maryland. Organized after World War II in 1946, the MPSSAA is made up of public high schools from each of Maryland's 23 counties and independent city of Baltimore City, which joined the association in 1993 when its public high schools withdrew at the orders of a new Superintendent of Public Instruction (schools) in the Baltimore City Public Schools from the earlier longtime athletic league, the Maryland Scholastic Association (M.S.A.) which was founded in 1919. Manuel Camper (born May 18, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Cariduros de Fajardo of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He played college basketball for the Siena Saints. High school career Camper attended Kent County High School, where he played quarterback and wide receiver as well as basketball. He scored 1,951 points in his high school career. As a senior, Camper averaged 28 points and 13 rebounds per game and led the Trojans to the Maryland 1A east region title. Wayne Thomas Gilchrest (born April 15, 1946) is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives representing . In 2008, Gilchrest was defeated in the Republican primary by State Senator Andy Harris. Following his departure from politics he has worked on environmental education.
