Kenneth L. Smith (Wasco)
Kenneth L. Smith is a former civil engineer for the National Park Service, freelance writer, photographer, author, historian, naturalist, and environmentalist. Working with the Ozark Society, he was a key activist for the formation of the Buffalo National River and working with the Buffalo River Foundation he continues to explore ways to benefit the park. He has served over 30 years as trail development coordinator for the Buffalo River Trail, leading crews of mostly volunteers. Early life Kenneth grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He is the son of Elton V. and Carol Gibbs Smith. He entered the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1952. While there, in 1953, he joined a hiking group and became familiar with the Buffalo River area and northwest Arkansas. After college he worked as an engineer for a paper company in Crossett, Arkansas. Buffalo National River

Buffalo River Trail
The Buffalo River Trail is a hiking and backpacking trail that follows the path of the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. It consists of two separate sections that are referred to as the Western and Eastern sections. The Western Section (upper river section) is from Boxley Valley to Pruitt. The Eastern Section (middle, lower river section) is from Woolum Ford to Highway 14 (Dillard's Ferry). The Ozark Highlands Trail joins the Eastern Section of the Buffalo River Trail at Woolum Ford so it is officially designated the Buffalo River/Ozark Highlands Trail. Hot Springs, Arkansas
Hot Springs is a resort city in the state of Arkansas and the county seat of Garland County. The city is located in the Ouachita Mountains among the U.S. Interior Highlands, and is set among several natural hot springs for which the city is named. Crossett is the largest city in Ashley County, Arkansas, United States, with a population of 5,507, according to 2010 Census Bureau estimates.
