Kenneth Beatty
Charles Kenneth Beatty (April 19, 1905 – September 28, 1977) was an American football and basketball coach. He was the first head football coach at East Carolina Teaching College—now known as East Carolina University East Carolina University (ECU) is a public university, public research university in Greenville, North Carolina. It is the fourth largest university in North Carolina. Founded on March 8, 1907, as a Normal school, teacher training school, East ...—serving from 1932 to 1933 and compiling a record of 1–10. Beatty was also the head basketball coach at East Carolina from 1932 to 1934, tallying mark of 12–17. He was inducted into the East Carolina University Hall of Fame in 1974. East Carolina Pirates Football
The East Carolina Pirates are a college football team that represents East Carolina University (variously "East Carolina" or "ECU"). The team is a member of the American Athletic Conference, which is in Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Mike Houston is the head coach. The Pirates have won seven conference championships and nine bowl games. The Pirates have 20 All-Americans over its history. Four players have their jerseys retired. Numerous Pirates have played in the NFL, including ten current players. The team played its inaugural season in 1932. The team played home games at College Stadium on the main campus from the 1949 to the 1962 season. East Carolina Pirates Men's Basketball
The East Carolina Pirates men's basketball team represents East Carolina University in NCAA Division I college basketball and competes in the American Athletic Conference. The Pirates are coached by Mike Schwartz. History Basketball became the first intercollegiate sport at East Carolina, beginning with the 1931–1932 season. The Pirates joined the NAIA North State Conference in 1947, winning the conference title in 1953–54 and appeared in the NAIA National Tournament two years in 1953 and '54, winning two district titles before losing in the first round of the national finals. Ten years later, ECU made the jump to Division I as a member of the Southern Conference and became a full-fledged member during the 1965–66 season. The 1933 college football season saw the Michigan Wolverines repeat as winners of the Knute Rockne Memorial Trophy as national champion under the Dickinson System.
