Kennedy Town is the western terminus of the . The station serves the Kennedy Town area on the northwestern end of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. History Planning When the station first appeared in ''Hong Kong Mass Transit: Further Studies'' in 1970, it was simply known as Kennedy (). It was to be built as part of the Island line in the 1980s, but construction of the line did not commence westwards beyond , citing inadequate passengers and technical difficulties by contractors. Under the latest proposal as of June 2005, Kennedy Town would be served by West Island line as an extension of the Island line, a heavy rail system, instead of being served by a medium capacity rail shared by commuters from Southern District, after pressure from local community groups. Smithfield, Hong Kong
Smithfield is a street with a length of approximately 1,300 m in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Its northern section is a commercial and residential area, while its southern section is a road connecting it to Pok Fu Lam Road. Smithfield was historically the site of a cattle quarantine depot and a slaughterhouse, and was probably named after its London namesake. Island Line (MTR)
The Island line is one of eleven lines of the MTR, the mass transit system in Hong Kong. It runs from Kennedy Town in the Western district to Chai Wan in the Eastern District on Hong Kong Island, passing through the territory's major business districts of Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, and connecting them with built-up areas on the north shore of the island. Kennedy Town Swimming Pool
The Kennedy Town Swimming Pool () is a public swimming complex in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong. There have been two pools of this name. The first iteration opened in 1974 while the current iteration opened in 2011. First generation Construction of the Kennedy Town Swimming Pool began in 1971 on the former site of the Kennedy Town cattle quarantine depot on Smithfield. The $7.5 million facility was funded by the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and opened on 14 August 1974. At the opening ceremony, Jockey Club steward Douglas Laing unveiled a commemorative plaque. The pool was built and managed by the Urban Council and was the first public pool in Western District.
