Kemp-Shepard House
The Kemp-Shepard House is a historic house on Highbridge Road (Vermont Route 104A) in Georgia, Vermont. The main block of the brick house, built about 1830, is an important early work of a regional master builder, and it is attached to an older wood-frame ell. It was built on land that was among the first to be settled in the eastern part of the town. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. Description and history The Kemp-Shepard House stands in a rural area of eastern Georgia, on the north side of Highbridge Road just east of its crossing over an inlet of Arrowhead Mountain Lake. It stands on about of land, a remnant of a once-larger farm property, much of which was inundated when the lake was formed in 1937. Vermont Route 104 (VT 104) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Vermont. The highway runs from VT 15 in Cambridge to VT 105 in the town of St. Albans. VT 104 is an L-shaped route that connects the city of St. Albans and Cambridge via Fairfax. The highway has an auxiliary route, VT 104A, that connects Fairfax and Georgia to the west. Georgia is a town in Franklin County, Vermont, United States. The population was 4,845 at the 2020 census. Geography The town occupies the southwest corner of Franklin County, bordered to the south by Chittenden County. The western border of the town is within Lake Champlain and its St. Albans Bay. St. Albans, the Franklin County seat, is to the north. U.S. Route 7 passes through the town, as does Interstate 89, which crosses US-7 at Exit 18 in the southeast part of town.
