Kemnay Academy
Kemnay Academy is a secondary school in Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, situated on the banks of the River Don. It is one of seventeen secondary schools run by Aberdeenshire Council and has roughly 820 pupils. The current rector is Lizbeth Paul, who took up post in August 2015. History Built in 1980 and opened in 1982, Kemnay Academy was initially created in response to a growing need for a secondary school to accommodate the growing number of pupils in Kintore and Kemnay who previously went to Inverurie Academy. After its construction, Kemnay Academy originally served the surrounding Kemnay and Kintore communities and their three feeder primary schools (Kintore Primary, Kemnay Primary, Alehousewells Primary). At the turn of the century, Kemnay Academy began accepting pupils from the neighbouring Kinellar Primary School in Blackburn. Kemnay, Aberdeenshire
Kemnay (Gaelic: ''Camnaidh'') is a village west of Aberdeen in Garioch, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. History The village name ''Kemnay'' is believed to originate from the Celtic words that mean "little crook in the river" due to the village location on the bend of the River Don. Kemnay House is classified by Historic Scotland as a category A listed building. The village was served by Kemnay railway station on the Alford Valley Railway from 1859 to 1950. The alignment through the village has been lost to housing developments. The pre-Reformation church was dedicated to St Anne. The parish was united with Craigern in 1500 and both came under the umbrella of nearby Kinkell. The old church was extensively rebuilt in 1632. The current parish church dates from 1844. The pre-1844 church was of unusual cruciform style, with the earth floor 1m below the surrounding ground, and prone to icing in winter. Paul Lawrie
Paul Stewart Lawrie (born 1 January 1969) is a Scottish professional golfer who is best known for winning The Open Championship in 1999. He was a vice-captain for the European Ryder Cup team in 2016. Early career Lawrie was born in Aberdeen and turned professional in 1986. in 1990 he won the Scottish Assistants' Championship at Cruden Bay by five strokes and the Scottish Under-25 Championship at Deer Park by seven strokes. In 1991 he won the Daily Express Scottish National Pro-am at Carnoustie by a stroke from Craig Maltman. He became a member of the European Tour in 1992. He performed steadily without doing much to draw attention to himself, aside from a 6th-place finish in the 1993 Open Championship. Darren Graham Mackie (born 5 January 1982) is a Scottish former footballer who, most recently, played for Inverurie Loco Works as a player/coach. Mackie was born in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland and previously played as a striker for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League between 1998 and 2012, with a loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2004. Evan Duthie (born 25 November 2000) is a Scottish DJ and music producer. A native of Aberdeen, Duthie began working as a DJ in 2015. He has played at events including BPM, Morning Gloryville, and Enjoy Music festival. Duthie has gained support from the likes of Annie Mac, Monki, Melé, Redlight and Hannah Wants. Kintore (; Gaelic: ''Ceann Tòrr'') is a town and former royal burgh near Inverurie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, now bypassed by the A96 road between Aberdeen and Inverness. It is situated on the banks of the River Don. Nearby are the remains of Hallforest Castle, former stronghold of the Earls of Kintore. History Established in the ninth century AD as a royal burgh, Kintore had its royal charter renewed by King James IV in 1506. But the area has clearly been a popular settlement since prehistoric times. Recent archaeological excavations show Neolithic finds dating to at least 5000 BC. Kintore Town House was completed in 1747. In 2018, Aberdeenshire Council estimated that around 4,790 people lived in Kintore. River Don, Aberdeenshire
The River Don ( gd, Deathan) is a river in north-east Scotland. It rises in the Grampians and flows eastwards, through Aberdeenshire, to the North Sea at Aberdeen. The Don passes through Alford, Kemnay, Inverurie, Kintore, and Dyce. Its main tributary, the River Ury, joins at Inverurie. Course of the river The Don rises in the peat flat beneath ''Druim na Feithe'', and in the shadow of Glen Avon, before flowing quietly past the ice-age moraine and down to Cock Bridge, below the picturesque site of the recently demolished Delnadamph Lodge.
