Kemmental is a municipality in the district of Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. The municipality was formed on 1 January 1996 through the merger of Alterswilen, Hugelshofen, Altishausen, Dotnacht, Ellighausen, Lippoldswilen, Neuwilen and Siegershausen. History Each of the former municipalities that now make up Kemmental had a long history as an independent municipality. Alterswilen is first mentioned in 1248 as ''Alterswilaer'' while the hamlet of Bommen was first mentioned in 1348 as ''Boumen''. Altishausen is first mentioned in 1159 as ''Altinshusin''. Ellighausen is first mentioned in 1331 as ''Adlikusen''. Of the other villages that made up Ellighausen, Bächi was mentioned in 1259 as ''Baecho'', Geboltschhusen in 1385 as ''Geboltzhusen''. Berg, Thurgau
Berg is a municipality in the district of Weinfelden in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. History The earliest traces of human settlement come from the Stone Age and there are scattered Bronze Age items around Berg. The modern village of Berg is first mentioned in 796 as ''Berga''. In the Early Middle Ages, Berg and the surrounding land were in the possession of the Bishop of Constance and were on the southern border of the Bishop's land. A fortress was first built in the 12th-13th Century, which was replaced in 1600 by a castle. The castle and the rights to rule over the villages of Berg, Andhausen, Donzhausen and parts of Andwil (TG), Mauren and Mattwil were rented out by the Cathedral of Constance (not the Bishop) until 1798. Alterswilen
Alterswilen is a village and former municipality in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1248 as ''Alterswilaer''. The municipality also contained the village Bommen. It had 129 inhabitants in 1850, which increased to 186 in 1920. After a decline to 134 in 1970 it was back on 182 in 1990. Kreuzlingen
Kreuzlingen is a municipality in the district of Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau in north-eastern Switzerland. It is the seat of the district and is the second-largest city of the canton, after Frauenfeld, with a population of about 22,000. History The name of the municipality stems from the Augustinian monastery ''Crucelin'', later Kreuzlingen Abbey. It was founded in 1125 by the Bishop of Constance Ulrich I. In the Swabian War and the 30 Years' War after the siege of Constance by Swedish troops, the Augustinian monastery was burned down by the people of Constance, who blamed the monks for having supported the enemy.
