Kembé
Kembé is a town located in the Central African Republic Prefectures of the Central African Republic, prefecture of Basse-Kotto. The Kembe Falls, Kotto Falls double waterfall is nearby. History Kembé, together with nearby Dimbi, was captured by Séléka rebels on 20–21 January 2013. In November 2016 it was reported that Kembe was under control of rebels from Union for Peace in the Central African Republic. On 11 October 2017, 25 Muslim civilians were massacred by anti-balaka militiamen inside a mosque in the town of Kembe. As of June 2019 Kembe was under control of Anti-balaka. On 6 May 2021 the town was recaptured by government forces, however later it was captured by UPC rebels and as of April 2022 remains under UPC control. Dimbi
Dimbi is a village located in the Central African Republic Prefectures of the Central African Republic, prefecture of Basse-Kotto. History Dimbi was captured by Séléka rebels on 20–21 January 2013. On 6 May 2021 Dimbi was recaptured by government forces after ousting Union for Peace in the Central African Republic armed group. On 8 October 2021 UPC rebels regained control of Dimbi. On 13 June 2022 armed forces supported by Russians captured Dimbi after clashing with rebels. On 3 July armed forces repelled rebel attack on Dimbi killing 12 rebels and capturing five. Séléka CPSK-CPJP-UFDR was an alliance of rebel militia groups that subjugated the Central African Republic (CAR) on 24 March 2013. After its official dissolution in September 2013, the remaining rebel groups became known as Ex-Séléka. Séléka leader Michel Djotodia became the nation's president from March 2013 until his resignation in January 2014. Union For Peace In The Central African Republic
Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC, french: Unité pour la paix en Centrafrique) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic which controls southern parts of the country. History UPC was formed on 17 September 2014 by Ali Darassa from ex-Séléka elements. Their initial headquarters was Bambari, however they were forced to retreat on 6 March 2017. On 10 January 2019, they launched a heavy attack on MINUSCA forces in Bambari vowing to recapture the city. They were repelled and in response Portuguese paratroopers raided their base in Bokolobo seizing some weapons and destroying some checkpoints. On 17 December 2020, the UPC joined the Coalition of Patriots for Change. War crimes On 29 January 2019 18 people were killed and 23 wounded when UPC fighters opened fire during a funeral ceremony in Ippy. Between 2016 and 2020 UPC killed more than 1300 people. The Anti-balaka is an alliance of militia groups based in the Central African Republic in the early 21st century said to be composed primarily of Christians. However, some church leaders have contested the claimed exclusively Christian character of such groups.
