Kellogg High School
Kellogg High School (KHS) is a public high school in Kellogg, Idaho, United States. It was established in 1956 and is part of the Kellogg School District #391. History Kellogg High School was built in 1956 for just under $1 million and was recognized nationally for its modern architecture. The original school was located in uptown Kellogg, near the south end of Main Street. Later the junior high, it was demolished in 1971 and is now the city's skate park. Athletics The school competes in athletics in IHSAA Class 3A, in the Intermountain League with Bonners Ferry, Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy, Priest River, and Timberlake (of Spirit Lake). Excluding Coeur d'Alene Charter, these league members are all north of Coeur d'Alene; former member St. Maries dropped to 2A in 2012, but remains the unofficial primary rival. Kellogg, Idaho
Kellogg is a city in the Silver Valley of Shoshone County, Idaho, United States, in the Idaho Panhandle region. The city lies near the Coeur d'Alene National Forest and about 36 miles (58 km) east-southeast of Coeur d'Alene along Interstate 90. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 2,120, down by a third from its population in 1980. History Kellogg was incorporated in 1907. The city limits included mine property in 1955, and smelter property in 1956. The population in 1960 was about 6000. Kellogg is named after a prospector named Noah Kellogg. After nearly a century of bustling activity in the mines, including a history of disputes between union miners and mine owners, the Bunker Hill Mine (& smelter) closed in 1981, leaving thousands out of work and a history of lead contamination. Idaho High School Activities Association
The Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA) oversees high school athletics and activities in the state of Idaho. Idaho high schools are classified in five categories, based on enrollment, for league competition and state playoffs and championships. The IHSAA recognizes 18 specific sports. Schools primarily compete within their own classification for regular season play, but are allowed to play other schools one classification above or below them in most sports. Bonners Ferry High School is a four-year public secondary school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. The only traditional high school in the Boundary County School District #101, it serves all of Boundary County, the northernmost in the state. Timberlake High School is a four-year public secondary school in Spirit Lake, Idaho. Opened in 1998 at the south end of town, it is the second high school in the Lakeland Joint School District #272 of northern Kootenai County and draws its students from Spirit Lake, Athol, Bayview, and Twin Lakes.
