Keflavík Men's Basketball
The Keflavík men's basketball team, commonly known as Keflavík, is the men's professional basketball department of Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag), based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. They currently play in Úrvalsdeild karla. Rivalry with Njarðvík Keflavík's biggest rivals are their closest neighbours, Njarðvík. The teams are both based in Reykjanesbær. Keflavík and Njarðvík were neighbouring towns but were merged in 1994 and formed Reykjanesbær. Their arenas are within one kilometre of each other. Axel Nikulásson
Axel Arnar Nikulásson (2 June 1962 – 21 January 2022) was an Icelandic basketball player and coach. He won the Icelandic championship twice, with Keflavík in 1989 and with KR in 1990. Early life Axel was born in Akranes in 1962 but grew up in Keflavík. Playing career Axel started playing basketball with Keflavík's youth teams around the age of 11. He broke into the first-team in 1979 and helped the team with the second-tier 1. deild in 1982 and achieve promotion to the first-tier Úrvalsdeild karla. During his first Úrvalsdeild season, Axel averaged 18.6 and helped Keflavík finish as the runner-up to the national championship. The following season, Axel moved to the United States to attend East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania where he also played for the school's basketball team, the East Stroudsburg Warriors. Michael Craion
Michael Craion (born 2 August 1989) is an American professional basketball player for Union Tours Basket Métropole of the French NM1. He won the Icelandic championship in 2015 and 2016, and was widely regarded as the best foreign player in the country, winning the Úrvalsdeild Foreign Player of the year three times. College career Craion played two seasons at Independence Community College before playing for Oral Roberts from 2009 to 2012, where he averaged 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds in 69 games. In 2010, he was a second team All- Summit League and the Newcomer of the Year. He missed most of the 2010–2011 season after breaking his leg. Sigurður Gunnar Þorsteinsson (born 8 July 1988) is an Icelandic professional basketball player who plays for Úrvalsdeild karla club Tindastóll and the Icelandic national basketball team. Magnús Þór Gunnarsson
Magnús Þór Gunnarsson (born 7 February 1981) is an Icelandic basketball player who played twenty seasons in the Úrvalsdeild karla. He won the Icelandic championship five times and the Icelandic basketball cup three times. Icelandic national team Magnús played 77 games for the Icelandic national basketball team from 2001 to 2013, and was for a time the team's captain. Kristinn Geir Friðriksson (born 23 December 1971) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach. He is currently a basketball analyst for '' Domino's Körfuboltakvöld'' (English: Domino's Basketball Night) on Stöð 2 Sport. Jónatan James Bow
Jónatan James Bow (born Jonathan James Bow on 16 February 1966) is an American-Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team. He won the Icelandic championship three times with Keflavík and KR. Playing career Bow's first professional stop was with Haukar in 1989. In September 1989, Haukar loaned Bow to KR to participate in the FIBA Korać Cup. With KR, Bow teamed up with Soviet Union national team player Anatolij Kovtun which was, according to FIBA, the first time an American and a Soviet player played together in the Cup. Gunnar Ólafsson (born 9 June 1993) is an Icelandic basketball player for Fryshuset Basket in the Swedish Basketball League and the Icelandic men's national basketball team. Fannar Ólafsson
Fannar Ólafsson (born November 20, 1978) is an Icelandic basketball analyst on Stöð 2 Sport's '' Domino's Körfuboltakvöld'' (English: Domino's Basketball Night) and a former basketball player. Falur Harðarson
Falur Jóhann Harðarson (born 15 October 1968) is an Icelandic basketball coach and a former player. He spent most of his career with Keflavík where he won five national championships, the last one as a player-coach, and 3 national cups. A five time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team selection, he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 1999.
