The 24 Hour Church of Elvis was an exhibit at a museum and gallery called "Where's The ART!!" in Portland, Oregon, United States, run by artist Stephanie "Stevie" G. Pierce. History The original location (1109 SW Washington, ), which operated from 1985–1986, had a changing variety of single coin-operated art installations accessible from the street, as elaborate window displays, and a large uncurated art gallery where any and all could sell their art available for purchase inside. The Velveteria Epicenter of Art Fighting Cultural Deprivation, or Velveteria (and formerly the Velveteria: The Museum of Velvet Paintings) is a museum located in Los Angeles, California, dedicated to velvet paintings. The Idiotarod is a shopping cart race in which teams of five or more "idiots" with a (sometimes modified) grocery store shopping cart run through the streets of a major metropolitan area. The carts are usually themed and feature people in costumes. The races are fun competitions where sabotage, costume, and presentation, and other efforts are rewarded; some cities offer a "Best in Show" prize. Sabotage, such as tripping competitors, throwing marbles or large obstacles in their paths, and the spreading of misinformation such as false route information, were common in the early years. Yarn bombing (or yarnbombing) is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk. It is also called wool bombing, yarn storming, guerrilla knitting, kniffiti, urban knitting, or graffiti knitting. Motivation While other forms of graffiti may be expressive, decorative, territorial, socio-political commentary, advertising or vandalism, yarn bombing was initially almost exclusively about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places. Adam Kuby (born 1961) is an American sculptor, visual artist and landscape designer, focusing on large-scale public art commissions and environmental art installations. Early life and education Kuby grew up in Philadelphia and is primarily based in Portland, Oregon. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied landscape architecture and ecology, and an MFA in Sculpture from the University of North Carolina in 1992. Zoobomb
Zoobomb is a weekly bicycling activity in Portland, Oregon, United States during which participants ride bicycles rapidly downhill in the city's West Hills. Zoobomb began in 2002. Participants carry their bikes on MAX Light Rail to the Washington Park station next to the Oregon Zoo. From there, participants take the elevator to the surface and then ride their bikes down the hills in the vicinity. This process is often repeated several times throughout the night. History Early years Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen and Tony Wheeler.
