Kedah State Executive Council
The Kedah State Executive Council is the executive branch of the State Government of Kedah, Malaysia. The Council is composed of the List of Menteris Besar of Kedah, Menteri Besar, the Leader of the council, appointed by the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan on the basis that he/she commands the majority support in the Kedah State Legislative Assembly, (half of the number of the members of the assembly). The State Government of Kedah is also assisted by the State Secretary, the State Legal Adviser and the State Financial Officer. This Council is similar in structure and role to the Cabinet of Malaysia, while being smaller in size. As federal and state responsibilities differ, there are a number of portfolios that differ between the federal and state governments. Members of the Council are selected and nominated by the Menteri Besar, but appointed by the Sultan. Kedah
Kedah (), also known by its honorific Darul Aman (Islam), Aman and historically as Queda, is a States and federal territories of Malaysia, state of Malaysia, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah ( Jawi: ;born 30 April 1942) is the 29th Sultan of Kedah, Malaysia. He was proclaimed Sultan on 12 September 2017, upon the death of his elder half brother, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah. Biography Sultan Sallehuddin was born (as Tunku Mahmud Sallehuddin) and raised in Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, Kedah. He was the ninth of 14 siblings, to Sultan Badlishah, the 27th Sultan of Kedah, and Sultanah Asma, daughter of Sultan Sulaiman of Terengganu. Mohd Hayati Othman
Mohd Hayati bin Othman (born 12 June 1957) is a Malaysian politician and is the member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly for . He was a member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Pendang constituency in Kedah from 2004 to 2013, as a member of the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). Hayati was elected to the Pendang seat in the 2004 election with a 50-vote margin. Two years earlier, he had been defeated in a by-election for the seat occasioned by the death of PAS's leader Fadzil Noor. The 2004 victory was a rare win for PAS in an election where it lost 20 of its 27 seats. Hayati then increased his majority in the 2008 election. He had contested the seat in a by-election in 2002, but was defeated by Othman Abdul of the United Malay National Organisation. He was replaced as the PAS candidate for Pendang ahead of the 2013 election, to make way for the party's deputy president Mat Sabu, and the party lost the seat to the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). ...
