Keamari
Keamari ( sd, ڪياماڙي, ur, کیماڑی ) is a neighbourhood in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Keamari was originally an independent settlement that was built on a sandy ridge on the eastern side of Karachi Harbour. History Keamari was a low lying island located between Manora and the city of Karachi well into the colonial era. During this time, Keamari was the landing point for all goods and people entering Karachi. Kemari's anchorage during the early colonial era was too shallow for large ships, and so those were instead forced to dock at Manora. The 3 mile long Napier Mole Road was built in 1854 as a raised embankment which connected Karachi with Keamari. A year earlier in 1853, the Napier obelisk was built to commemorate the late Governor of Sindh, Charles Napier. The British further built a spur of the Sindh Railway to Kemari, but which did not follow Napier Mole, but instead along the east part of Chinna creek. Karachi Harbour
Karachi Harbour is a narrow bay and river estuary located west of the Indus River Delta in Karachi, Pakistan. The harbour lies between the Lyari River delta and Chinna Creek to the north, and the Arabian Sea to the south. Since 1886, sections of the harbour have been improved to form the Port of Karachi - Pakistan's busiest seaport. Geography The harbour is divided into an Upper and Lower Harbour, which together have a length of 11.5 kilometers. The Upper Harbour has been developed into the Port of Karachi, and is located between the East and West Wharfs of the port, where it then goes on eastward to form a series of backwaters with thick mangrove forests known as Chinna Creek. Baba and Bhit Islands ( ur, ) are two small and densely populated islands located in the Karachi Harbour, in Karachi, Pakistan. The approximate area of the islands is 4 km² and the population is about 25,000. The islands are connected to Karachi via a ferry service to Keamari. The islands, along with Shams Pir, are old fishing villages in the harbor which predate the formal establishment of Karachi. It is claimed that the two islands are over 400 years old.
