Kawasaki Zephyr
The Kawasaki Zephyr is a range of retro-styled naked superbikes made in the 1990s in Kawasaki's Z series. All models have transverse air-cooled dual overhead camshaft inline-four engines. There were a number of Zephyr models, in four engine capacities, . The ''400'' was produced for the Japan market starting in 1989. Zephyr styling is roughly based on the old Kawasaki Z1, with twin shock rear suspension, a relatively upright riding position and air-cooled power units. The ''400'', ''550'' and ''750'' engines were developed from the old Z400/500/550/650/750/900 series. The ''1100'' engine is based on the air-cooled DOHC, eight-valve inline-four that traces its roots back through the GPz1100 to the Z1000. A sport bike (sports motorcycle, or sports bike) is a motorcycle designed and optimized for speed, acceleration, braking, and cornering on asphalt concrete race tracks and roads. They are mainly designed for performance at the expense of comfort, fuel economy, and storage in comparison with other motorcycles. Sport bikes can be and are typically equipped with fairings and a windscreen to deflect wind from the rider to improve aerodynamics. Kawasaki Motorcycles
Kawasaki motorcycles are manufactured by the Motorcycle & Engine division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries. History Kawasaki Aircraft initially manufactured motorcycles under the Meguro name, having bought an ailing motorcycle manufacturer, Meguro Manufacturing with whom they had been in partnership. This eventually became Kawasaki Motor Sales. Some early motorcycles display an emblem with "Kawasaki Aircraft" on the fuel tank. During 1962, Kawasaki engineers were developing a four-stroke engine for small cars. Then some of the engineers transferred to the Meguro factory to work on the Meguro K1 and the SG, a single cylinder 250 cc OHV. Inline-four Engine
A straight-four engine (also called an inline-four) is a four-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. Kawasaki Z1
The Kawasaki Z1 is a four-cylinder, air-cooled, double-overhead camshaft, carbureted, chain-drive motorcycle introduced in 1972 by Kawasaki. Following the introduction of Honda's CB750 in 1968, the Z1 helped popularize the in-line, across-the-frame four-cylinder, a format that became known as the ''Universal Japanese Motorcycle'' or ''UJM.'' The Z1 was noted for being the first large-capacity Japanese four-cylinder motorcycle to use the double-overhead-camshaft system on a production motorcycle. Kawasaki ZRX1100
The Kawasaki ZRX1100 was a standard motorcycle made by Kawasaki from 1997 to 2000 with an engine loosely based on the ZX-11. It replaced the Zephyr 1100. Since the Zephyr 1100 sold poorly in the US, the ZRX1100 was not initially sold in that market until 1999. In 2001, the ZRX1100 was replaced by the larger engined ZRX1200, that were sold in the US until 2005. They were updated in 2008 and still sold in Japan as the ZRX1200 DAEG model until 2016. The Japanese only "Final Edition" model was sold until 2017. The ZRX1100 and the later ZRX1200 were styled like 1980s muscle bikes, which were large bikes with large engines.
