Katja Nyberg (politician)
Katja Maria Elisabeth Nyberg (born 16 September 1971) is a Swedish police officer and politician for the Sweden Democrats. She was elected as a member of the Riksdag during the 2018 Swedish general election. Nyberg worked as a police officer and for the Swedish Security Service before serving as an MP. In addition, she has also been a member of the party board for the Sweden Democrats in Stockholm and serves on the Justice Committee in the Riksdag. In this role, she focuses on tackling gang crime and honor violence. Nyberg has described herself as being on the more moderate wing of the SD and that she wouldn't have joined the earlier versions of the party. The Riksdag (, ; also sv, riksdagen or ''Sveriges riksdag'' ) is the legislature and the supreme decision-making body of Sweden. Since 1971, the Riksdag has been a unicameral legislature with 349 members (), elected proportionally and serving, since 1994, fixed four-year terms. Stockholm County (Riksdag Constituency)
Stockholm County ( sv, Stockholms Län) is one of the 29 multi-member constituencies of the Riksdag, the national legislature of Sweden. The constituency was established in 1970 when the Riksdag changed from a bicameral legislature to a unicameral legislature. It is conterminous with the county of Stockholm but excludes Stockholm Municipality which has its own constituency. The constituency currently elects 40 of the 349 members of the Riksdag using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2022 general election it had 1,006,456 registered electors. Sweden Democrats
The Sweden Democrats ( sv , Sverigedemokraterna ; SD ) is a nationalist and right-wing populist political party in Sweden. As of 2022, it is the largest member of Sweden's right-wing governing bloc to which it provides confidence and supply, and is the second largest party in the Riksdag. The party describes itself as social conservative with a nationalist foundation. The party has also been variously characterised by academics, political commentators, and media as national-conservative, anti-immigration, anti-Islam, Eurosceptic, and far-right. The Sweden Democrats reject the far-right label, saying that it no longer represents the party's political beliefs. 2018 Swedish General Election
General elections were held in Sweden on 9 September 2018 to elect the 349 members of the Riksdag. Regional and municipal elections were also held on the same day. The incumbent minority government, consisting of the Social Democrats and the Greens and supported by the Left Party, won 144 seats, one seat more than the four-party Alliance coalition, with the Sweden Democrats winning the remaining 62 seats. The Social Democrats' vote share fell to 28.3 percent, its lowest level of support since 1911. The main opposition, the Moderates, lost even more support. The Sweden Democrats made gains, though less than anticipated.
