Katie Wilcox
Katie Wilcox (July 26, 1889 – 1974) was an American missionary. She founded the Lady Doak College in Madurai Madurai ( , also , ) is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Madurai District. As of the 2011 census, it was the third largest Urban agglomeration in ..., the first higher education institution exclusively for women there. She was born on July 26, 1889, and conducted missionary work in India from 1915 to 1958. From 1948 to 1958, she was at the Lady Doak College. She worked as a teacher at the Capron Hall Secondary School in Madurai, with the headmistress Sister Noyes. Wilcox also founded the OCPM School for girls and the Noyes School. After much hard work, she raised funds to build the Lady Doak College in 1948. Wilcox never married and died in 1974. Lady Doak College
Lady Doak College (LDC) is the first women's college in Madurai in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1948 by Katie Wilcox, an American missionary near Tallakulam in Madurai. Today there are around 3200 students. This number was only 86 at formation. It is named after Helen Doak, the associate founder. Location It is located on Lady Doak College road near Narimedu and Bibikulam, the places which are well connected by road transport.
