Kathleen Murphy (politician)
Kathleen J. Murphy is an American state representative from the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for the 34th district, encompassing McLean, Great Falls, and parts of Vienna and Loudoun County. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Murphy sits on the House Finance Committee and the Privileges and Elections Committee. Murphy ran for the 34th district seat in the 2013 elections against incumbent Republican Barbara Comstock, but lost. When Comstock won election to the United States House of Representatives in 2014, Murphy ran in the special election to succeed Comstock in the House of Delegates. A precinct captain, also known as a precinct chairman, precinct delegate, precinct committee officer or precinct committeeman, is an elected official in the American political party system. The office establishes a direct link between a political party and the voters in a local election district. Election to the office is by ballot or via the county party executive committee. A security clearance is a status granted to individuals allowing them access to classified information (state or organizational secrets) or to restricted areas, after completion of a thorough background check. The term "security clearance" is also sometimes used in private organizations that have a formal process to vet employees for access to sensitive information.
