Katherine Elizabeth Alice Hawes (born 1969) is an English female lawn and indoor bowler international. Bowls career International events In 1997 she won the pairs gold medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships with Mary Price. The following year she represented England in the pairs again with Mary Price, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 1999 she won a fours silver at the Atlantic Championships in Cape Town and the following year she won a triples silver medal at the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa. National events Hawes has won five National titles. At the 2021 Bowls England National Finals, she just missed out on winning a sixth title after finishing runner-up to Stef Branfield in the two wood singles, losing 16–10. Bowls
Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a bowling green, which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls"). It is normally played outdoors (although there are many indoor venues) and the outdoor surface is either natural grass, artificial turf or cotula (in New Zealand). 1998 Commonwealth Games
The 1998 Commonwealth Games ''(Malay: Sukan Komanwel 1998)'', officially known as the XVI Commonwealth Games ''(Malay: Sukan Komanwel ke-16)'', was a multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This edition is marked by several unprecedented facts in the history of the event. The 1998 games were the first held in an Asian country and the last Commonwealth Games of the 20th century. This was also the first time the games took place in a nation with a head of state other than the Head of the Commonwealth, and the first time the games were held in a country whose majority of the population did not have English as the first language. Stephanie Branfield also known as Stef Branfield (born c.1993) is an English female lawn bowls international. Bowls career Branfield has represented England at bowls but came to significant prominence at the 2021 Bowls England National Finals when she won two English National titles representing the Clevdon Bowls Club and Somerset. The first title was the prestigious singles, where she beat Chris Mitchell of Wiltshire 21–16. A few days later she reached the final of the two wood singles, beating Katherine Hawes 16–10. In 2022, she won double gold at the European Bowls Championships, winning the singles and pairs titles. In 2023, she won the women's singles for the second time, during the 2023 Bowls England National Finals, defeating Jayne Christie Jayne Christie (née Measures) is an English international lawn bowler. 2021 Bowls England National Finals
The 2021 Bowls England National Finals are a series of lawn bowls events to determine the National champions of England. The Championships were held from 19 August to 19 September 2021, at the Royal Leamington Spa Bowls Club in Victoria Park, Leamington Spa. They are organised by Bowls England, and are open to lawn bowlers who qualify via their County Championships. The 2021 finals were streamed live for the first time on YouTube.
