Katelin Guregian
Katelin Guregian ( Snyder; August 16, 1987 in Nashua, New Hampshire) is an American national rowing team coxswain. She is a five-time world champion and an Olympic gold medallist. She attended Winter Park High School and rowed for Winter Park Crew. She coxed the University of Washington men's eight in college to multiple victories, and has since moved on to the international level. 2019 World Rowing Championships
The 2019 World Rowing Championships were held in Ottensheim, Austria from 25 August to 1 September 2019. Apart from Ottensheim, the right to host the championships was contested by Hamburg in Germany, Račice in the Czech Republic, and Varese in Italy. The event determined the majority of qualifiers to the rowing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. On 21 August, three days before the championships, para-rower Dzmitry Ryshkevich from Belarus died after he capsized during a training session. He was expected to participate in the PR1M1x at his third consecutive championships. 2017 World Rowing Championships
The 2017 World Rowing Championships were the 47th edition of the World Rowing Championships that were held from 24 September to 1 October 2017 in Sarasota, Florida. Host selection During 2013, Plovdiv and Sarasota, Florida both applied to host the 2017 World Rowing Championships. In April 2013, a committee of International Rowing Federation (FISA) officials visited Sarasota and then Plovdiv the following month. It was then noted that Plovdiv had hosted the 2012 World Rowing Championships and bid documentation for 2017 had not been finalized. Before the next FISA congress, the bid from Plovdiv was changed to apply for the 2018 hosting rights. Winter Park Crew
Winter Park Crew is a rowing club in Winter Park, Florida. Winter Park Crew is a youth rowing program that includes a middle school program and high school program. The team has a tradition of winning with more than 30 state championships under its belt. Coaches Michael Vertullo is the head coach of the Women's team. He joined Winter Park Crew in 1998 and in 2022 finished is 30th year as a coach. Prior to joining Winter Park Crew, he coached in New York. He attended college at Rutgers University where he himself was a rower. Jill Snyder is the current Middle School coach. She herself holds rowing records. Coxswain (rowing)
In a rowing crew, the coxswain ( ; colloquially known as the cox or coxie) is the member who does not row but steers the boat and faces forward, towards the bow. The coxswain is responsible for steering the boat and coordinating the power and rhythm of the rowers. In some capacities, the coxswain is responsible for implementing the training regimen or race plan. Most coaches cannot communicate to boat/coxswain, so the coxswain is the "coach" in the boat. A coxswain is necessary in the first place because the rowers sit with their backs to the direction of travel.
