Katarina-Sofia was a borough (''stadsdelsområde'') in central Stockholm, named after the two parishes of Katarina and Sofia. Effective January 1, 2007, the borough merged with the borough of Maria-Gamla Stan to form the Södermalm borough. Stockholm City Centre (''Stockholms innerstad'', ''Innerstaden'', ''Inre staden'') is in Stockholm Municipality, also known as the City of Stockholm, part of the Stockholm urban area in Sweden. Maria-Gamla Stan Borough
Maria-Gamla Stan was a borough (''stadsdelsområde'') in central Stockholm, Sweden until January 1, 2007, named after the Maria (actually Maria Magdalena) parish and the Stockholm Old Town in the borough. After were introduced as an administrative division in Stockholm in 1996, Maria-Gamla Stan grew when it merged with the former borough of Hornstull in 1999, so that it comprised the whole western half of Södermalm and the island districts of Gamla Stan, Långholmen, Reimersholme and Riddarholmen. The islands of Årsta holmar in Årsta were also organized in Maria-Gamla stan. The population as of 2004 was 64,150 on an area of 4.62 km2, giving it a density of 13,885/km2. Hammarby Sjöstad
Hammarby Sjöstad is a part of the inner city of Stockholm, currently undergoing major urban redevelopment. It is located on both sides of lake Hammarby Sjö, bordering Nacka Municipality to the east. The area is part of the districts Södermalm and Södra Hammarbyhamnen. Before the current redevelopment began, the area was known as Norra Hammarbyhamnen and Södra Hammarbyhamnen, a mainly industrial zone centered on the Lumafabriken works, a piece of functionalist architecture designed by Eskil Sundahl and Arthur von Schmalensee, which now houses a library and offices. The neighbouring Lugnet was a run-down light industrial area, not intended to be permanent, housing an impromptu trailer park. Boroughs Of Stockholm
Municipalities in Sweden are in some rare cases divided into smaller districts (sometimes translated ''boroughs'') or urban districts, and are sometimes assigned administrative boards responsible for certain areas of governance in their respective areas. These districts are not specified by national Swedish law, but rather are created by individual municipalities, and thus the Swedish names of these districts vary greatly from municipality to municipality, including kommundelar, stadsdelar, stadsdelområden, primärområden, or stadsdelsnämndsområden. A parish is a territorial entity in many Christian denominations, constituting a division within a diocese. Katarina Parish
Katarina Parish ( sv, Katarina församling) is a parish in Södermalm's church district (''kontrakt'') in the Diocese of Stockholm, Sweden. The parish is located in Stockholm Municipality in Stockholm County. The parish forms its own pastorship. History John III gave an order in 1576 that a wooden chapel be built on the place on Södermalm, where Sten Sture the Younger's corpse and the corpses of the people killed at the Stockholm Bloodbath in 1520 were burned. The whole of Södermalm, however, belonged to Maria Parish (''Maria församling''), until Charles X Gustav in 1654 issued a permit that the eastern part would constitute a special parish and a church would be built on the site of the said chapel. Drawings for the church were made by Jean de la Vallée. The work began in 1656, and the church was consecrated in 1671. Sofia Church ( sv, Sofia kyrka), named after the Swedish queen Sophia of Nassau, is one of the major churches in Stockholm, Sweden.
